This is a great opportunity for the right candidate to use their expertise in benefits administration in a mission-driven nonprofit supporting Chicago's  immigrant community.  You will play a critical role in helping the organization meet its goal of being an employer of choice by making recommendations and guiding key decisions on our benefit package.  


The employee benefits specialist position manages all aspects of benefits at CASL. The position will assist employees with benefits enrollment and questions, verify all insurance billing, manages all benefits audits, maintains employee database and files, and partners with the third party broker and ensures compliance with required benefit notices.

• Assess benefit package and work with the broker to make recommendations for

change aligned with being an employer of choice

• Partner with HR associate to manage the annual open enrollment cycle, interfacing

with other members of the HR team, broker, vendors, and employees.

• Present benefit plan options to new employees at Orientation sessions, answer

• employee benefit questions as needed

• Partner with the broker and counsel to ensure compliance with state and federal

regulations including ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, DOL and ERISA. Establish a

compliance calendar and plan to ensure timely completion

• Implement Paylocity benefits module

• Manages leaves of absence requests, including short and long term disability, with the support of Human Resource Associate.

• Manage 401(k) vendors, process and discrimination testing

• Manage Workers Compensation process including incident reports, working with our insurance provider and completing OSHA reports

• Participate in compensation surveys and update job grades as needed

• Administer salary calculations to determine offer range for employee offers (back-up to HR Director)

• Ensures all benefits-related invoices are paid including unemployment.

• Manage annual salary increase process

• Write and distribute annual total reward letters

• Update and maintain job descriptions in Paylocity

• Analyze new job descriptions and make recommendations on job grades

• Other duties and special projects as needed

• Minimum three years’ experience in benefits administration 

• Bachelor’s degree in business or a related discipline, or equivalent related work experience in benefits/compensation required


• Microsoft office knowledge (Excel, Word, Power Point)

• Experience with Paylocity preferred

• Strong communication skills including the ability to explain benefit options and provide effective presentations  

Physical Demands:

• Lifting up to 50 lbs

• Sitting for extended periods

• Standing or walking 

Environment and Scheduling:

• Monday-Friday schedule 9-5p. Some evening or weekends may be required
