In the United States today, more than 75 million people cannot live for a sustained period of time without assistance. Nearly 25 percent of Americans struggle to put food in the fridge or gain access to essential health care services. Many live in overcrowded housing with tenuous ties to the labor market. Their neighborhoods are dangerous, often due to the scarcity that so many experience from birth. Despite a 60-year war on poverty and trillions spent annually to address the economic needs of the most vulnerable, we have failed to adequately measure, count, or address poverty. In the process, we have also stripped those living in it of their dignity and their agency.
You can help change this.
The Shared Humanity Project is seeking to hire a full-time fundraising professional or part-time freelance fundraiser for whom we will be the sole client as we launch a national effort to address poverty.
The organization has raised nearly $1.5M in seed and operating funds and seeks initially to match that with another $1.5M to help launch The National Plan to End Poverty. In addition, we will pursue funding to support our growth over the long term.
The Shared Humanity Project brings together people of all ages, races, and backgrounds to work toward economic and social change and the advancement of humanity. Our systemic change model - The National Plan to End Poverty - redefines and measures what “poverty” means, offers concrete steps that individuals and organizations can take to end poverty, and creates a community of actors from all sectors that works together to create positive change.
