The Job Developer will identify specific job opportunities for clients and advocate on behalf of clients with employers to help clients get and retain jobs. The Job Developer will build mutually beneficial relationships with employers to source job openings, understand requisite skill profiles for general industries and specific employers and connect clients with appropriate job opportunities. Additionally, the Job Developer will build tools to educate clients and Case Managers about specific career pathways including necessary skills, credentials and experience so clients can not only get a job, but plan for career growth and greater financial security over time.

The Job Developer will support client job retention through proactively seeking feedback from employers about clients to support client success. The incumbent will educate employers regarding the systems and provide suggestions on building a work environment that supports the success of diverse and often marginalized workers. Lastly, the Job Developer will coordinate with Case Managers to support clients in understanding employer expectations and preparing for interviews. All NVFS employees are expected to exemplify the values of the organization including collaboration, integrity, respect, communication and accountability. This position will report to the Workforce Development Program Manager.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Identify immediate job opportunities relevant to current client population’s skills and experience levels and advocate for clients among employers.
  • Identify “employers of choice” who understand challenges facing frontline employees and build policies that support their success and growth.
  • Identify and cultivate strong relationships with employers interested in hiring marginalized populations to create strong, mutually beneficial hiring pipelines.
  • Develop resources that educate clients and Case Managers on in-demand career pathways including necessary skills, experience and credentials to aid clients in planning their career growth.
  • Educate employers on systems that may prevent employee success and make recommendations on how to support job retention.
  • Seek clients’ strength and growth area feedback from employers; loop feedback to Case Managers in order to work with clients to support career success and job retention.
  • Collaborate with Case Managers to prepare clients for successful job interviews.
  • Coordinate direct assistance to support clients overcome barriers to employment such as with transportation needs in order to attend job interviews and first few weeks of work prior to receiving first paycheck.
  • Organize on-site interviews and other events to promote hiring relationships.
  • Coordinate with Development & Communications team when working with NVFS corporate partners.
  • Participate in regular supervision with Program Manager by providing regular updates.
  • Maintain employer records in accordance with program requirements and NVFS guidelines.
  • Maintain high-level of knowledge of area hiring trends, economic development initiatives and other subjects that may create opportunities for proactively building relationships and opportunities for clients.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • At minimum an Associate’s degree from an accredited college required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • At least three (3) years of professional experience required, preferably in a related field such as sales, account management, partnerships or a customer service role
  • Demonstrated understanding of or prior experience working with low-income, marginalized populations
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and proven ability to build and maintain relationships
  • Energetic, results oriented, driven individual who is not easily discouraged.
  • Strategic thinker and ability to analyze and solve problems quickly
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required
  • Oral and written fluency in English required; bilingual skills in client languages (such as Spanish and/or Arabic) a plus
  • May be called upon to work outside of normal working hours, including attending evening networking events and community meetings.
  • Must have reliable transportation as this position will regularly drive to meet with employers, coordinate with Case Managers, and meet with clients around the county and larger NOVA region.
  • Successful completion of background checks required upon hire
