About Cradles to Crayons:
Cradles to Crayons® (C2C®) was founded in 2002, with the mission of providing children from birth through age 12, living in homeless or low-income situations, with the essential items they need to thrive—at home, at school, and at play. C2C is at the cutting edge of volunteer management, and through its “Giving Factory” provides unique, hands-on opportunities for people to help other people in their communities. Headquartered in Boston, MA, C2C opened in Philadelphia in 2007, Chicago in 2016, and New York City via an innovative digital model in 2020.
How Our Model Works: Cradles to Crayons collects new and nearly new children's items through community and corporate drives and donations. These items are sorted and packaged by volunteers and then distributed to children in need through a network of service partners, schools, and nonprofit organizations. While meeting the immediate needs of low-income children with essentials like clothing, shoes, books, and more, Cradles to Crayons also provides an inspiring, meaningful, and tangible volunteer opportunity for tens-of-thousands of adults and children—ages five and up—from local corporations and communities, who collect clothing, host fundraisers, or volunteer in the "Giving Factory" warehouse.
In early 2020—in partnership with Bain & Co.—Cradles to Crayons went through a comprehensive strategic planning process to determine the most effective and efficient model to nationally mitigate the Clothing Insecurity crisis. The solution: an innovative new digital model, Giving Factory Direct™ (GFD™). GFD allows donors to send essential items directly from their homes to the children we serve via our service partners. With a product launch planned for early 2021, C2C plans to utilize a “test and learn” approach as it moves GFD from the incubate phase to a nationally scaled program, transforming C2C into a multi-channel organization.
Cradles to Crayons has earned the highest possible rating from Charity Navigator for 12 consecutive years. Only 2% of charities rated have received this distinction, differentiating C2C from its peers, exemplifying the high standard of service at C2C, and indicating that C2C outperforms most other charities in America.
Reporting to the Senior Director of External Affairs, the External Affairs Senior Associate is responsible for supporting and coordinating the overall External Affairs function; including National Marketing and Communications, Thought Leadership, and Impact and Advocacy, to achieve their annual organizational goals. The External Affairs Senior Associate will have primary responsibility for providing project management and support to the department as it relates to media, content, and design; advocacy and coalition building research and implementation; Impact and Thought Leadership; and general departmental support.
· Model and lead a positive “One Cradles” culture, underpinned by Cradles’ Cultural Values and related behaviors.
· Support Marketing and Communications efforts
o Support and help implement One Cradles to Crayons Communications Plan.
o Help manage cross-market Marketing group.
o Develop and manage cross-market content for website, social media outreach, and collateral materials/templates consistent with current organizational messaging, campaigns, and strategies.
o Manage Thought Leadership conference, editorial, and event calendar to inform internal and external stakeholders of thought leadership activities and leverage appropriately in conjunction with External Affairs Team and Founder/CEO. Manage and support C2C-driven Thought Leadership events.
o Coordinate with the External Affairs Team and external communications agency to manage and support Cradles to Crayons’ media and personality coordination and scheduling, including press release review and scheduling, and the production of monthly media reports.
o Other writing projects as assigned.
o Other Design projects as assigned.
· Support advocacy and coalition building efforts
o Take lead on researching and staying current on legislation affecting children, clothing and basic needs allowances, state and federal funding landscape, and legislators’ priorities.
o Research and identify priority list of national and market-level organizations/coalitions to join and support development of annual engagement strategy, e.g. National Diaper Bank, Lift Our Kids, etc.
o Draft content for monthly newsletter for Elected officials.
o Organize State House briefings and other advocacy events.
o Develop and maintain database of elected officials (market and national levels).
o Help manage cross-market advocacy group.
· Support Impact priorities
o Support and maintain annual poverty data research and trends.
o Support administration of the Phyllis Yale Impact Award, including preparing applications for review, consolidating review committee scoring, and assisting with external communications.
o Provide administrative support to Theory of Change work, including data gathering, research, preparing presentations and scheduling working group meetings.
o Provide additional support as needed.
· Support External Affairs department efforts
o Attend monthly department meetings
o Schedule and handle Chairman’s Council events and communications: Annual Gathering logistics, including menu selection and tracking RSVPs, quarterly newsletter
o Work with Senior Director to create a calendar of all department activities
o Manage board update communications and awards
· Other duties as deemed necessary/required
· 2-4 years relevant experience.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail and familiarity with grammar and writing style standards.
· Experience using digital marketing, marketing automation, and website platforms (e.g. Wordpress)
· Ability to work well independently and within teams that include managers, peers, donors, and advisors, and prepared to interact with team members on a non-hierarchical basis.
· Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
· Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite.
· Proficiency in Salesforce.
