Reports to: Chief Development Officer

Embarc programming combines a robust 3-year curriculum with immersive, learning experiences that connect students to multiple sectors of the Chicago community to drive academic skills, close the opportunity gap, and help them achieve their postsecondary goals.

Since its founding in 2010, Embarc has served more than 5,000 students and is currently working in nearly 20% of Chicago’s open enrollment public high schools. We’re proud that Embarc students achieved a 94% high school graduation rate and 90% overall postsecondary success through enrolling in college or career paths. Embarc’s impact is projected to double in the next four years.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Embarc seeks a driven Development Coordinator who will play a critical role in furthering the mission of Embarc and supporting all development efforts as the organization works towards an ambitious $30M fundraising goal to meet demand for Embarc’s programming and quadruple the number of students we serve.

Under the direction of the Chief Development Officer, the Development Coordinator will support and help track all fundraising efforts for Embarc, while playing a key role in the growth of the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES

This individual will assist with a variety of daily activities including the planning and execution of logistics and project management associated with the fundraising efforts of Embarc. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:


  • Works closely with the Chief Development Officer and the Director of Philanthropy to coordinate all aspects of fundraising and to ensure accurate information is shared across constituencies.
  • Supports the development work of the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Development Officer, the Board of Directors, and the Director of Philanthropy by creating briefing and staffing memos, scheduling meetings, arranging conference calls and contacting donors, as well as providing other appropriate support.
  •  Assists in the establishment and maintenance of relationships with donors and prospective donors to Embarc and all fundraising initiatives through the planning and staffing of development-related meetings.
  • Conducts prospect research support to support the identification and cultivation of prospective donors.
  • Prepares proposals, stewardship reports, and acknowledgements for all constituencies including individuals, corporations, and foundations.
  • Captures and manages data in the database to enhance record-keeping and stewardship.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

 Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; with one to two years of related experience.
  • Experience in fundraising, logistical coordination, or project management for high visibility activities is preferred.
  • Desire to build a career in development and strong passion for Embarc’s mission and vision a priority.
  • Must be well organized, detail oriented, able to prioritize, and possess strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to gather data, analyze information and prepare reports.
  • Ability to foster effective working relationships within a team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, as well as demonstrated proficiency in writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Outstanding customer service skills and experience to manage up to staff and high-level volunteers.
  • Highly flexible, comfortable managing up, strong work ethic.
