At Start Small Think Big (“Start Small”), we believe that access to high-quality legal, financial management, and marketing services is an essential part of starting or growing a successful small business, especially for small business owners who are currently lower income. We are a nonprofit organization that focuses on pairing entrepreneurs positioned to grow their businesses with top pro bono attorneys as well as financial and marketing experts.

The Start Small Marketing and Sales Program assists small business owners with a range of marketing and sales needs. On the marketing end, our aim is to assist small business owners in building a marketing infrastructure for their business (a brand identity guide, marketing collateral, digital presence), and for more advance businesses, support them in developing a marketing strategy for their business (SEO, Online Advertising, Website Audits, and Strategic Marketing Plans) by connecting entrepreneurs to marketing experts who can assist them for FREE. One the sales side, we aim to identify new and varied sales opportunities that can help our businesses increase their revenue and support their readiness for various distribution channels.

This role offers a unique opportunity for a skilled and highly motivated program manager, with an interest or background in marketing and communications, to use their talents to assist under-resourced entrepreneurs in accessing the marketing support they need for their business.

Job Responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage delivery of marketing services: Assist with the recruitment and onboarding of new marketing volunteers. Work with Program Director to develop a strategic programming schedule that meets increasing client need and specific grant deliverables. This includes developing, and at times teaching, various targeted marketing workshops, scheduling one-on-one consultations with an expert, and finding professionals for project placement. This also includes problem solving volunteer and entrepreneur relationships as they arise.
  • Conduct entrepreneur needs assessment and case management. Interview entrepreneurs as part of the intake process, assess marketing priorities for the business, and assist in finding the right volunteer match for their needs. Use our data management software, Salesforce, to record and manage all aspects of entrepreneur’s relationship with Start Small Think Big.
  • Support and coordinate events. Assist the Program Director with logistical and creative aspects of organizing corporate events, including volunteer meetings. Support the organization-wide effort around initiatives that feature our entrepreneurs as vendors, including the annual Pop Up Party.
  • Community outreach. Work with the Program Director, and broader Start Small team as necessary, to identify key new community partners for the organization. Conduct informational sessions about Start Small services for prospective entrepreneurs and community partners. Serve as an ambassador for the organization and its programs.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  • Professional with a background in program design/management, entrepreneurship, and/or other related disciplines.
  • Understanding of and comfort with marketing and communications.
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and perform duties independently with minimal supervision, adapt to a changing environment and handle multiple priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including ability to effectively communicate with different stakeholders (partners, volunteers, clients), and work constructively with colleagues.
  • High level of computer proficiency including familiarity with Google Applications, social media (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram), and MS Office.
  • Experience with website content management systems a plus (such as Squarespace, Wix, Wordpress, etc) a plus.
