Part of the Solution (POTS) is a poverty fighting organization helping low-income individuals and families access a range of services to help them move from crisis to stability and, ultimately, self-sufficiency. Annually, POTS serves more than 30,000 people, including 9,000 children. Currently, services include a Community Dining Room; a Food Pantry; Clothing Room, Shower, and Mail Facilities; Barbershop; Case Management; Employment Services, Comprehensive Case Management, a Legal Clinic; and the POTS Family Club. POTS also holds a variety of seasonal distributions for items such as back-to-school supplies, Thanksgiving turkeys, and holiday gifts.  

About the position

The Volunteer and Partnerships Coordinator is an essential position, ensuring a quality volunteer, intern and partner provider experience, managing onboarding and training so as to assure a strong understanding of role and POTS operations, and optimizing the use of volunteer and partner resources across the organization in support of POTS’ mission. The Volunteer and Partnerships Coordinator will focus on the following:

  • Volunteer, Intern and Program Partner Onboarding and Training: For all new volunteers, Interns and partners, provide education on POTS mission, history, vision and values as well as technical training about the roles traditionally filled by volunteers. Ensure that volunteers are trained prior to beginning service.
  • Volunteer, Intern and Program Partner Program Oversight: Along with a team of other staff at POTS the Volunteer and Partnerships Coordinator will develop and maintain policies on number of volunteers required for each shift, quality of volunteer work, etc. through direct oversight of volunteer work in programs. In addition, the Coordinator will provide oversight for interns and program partners.
  • Volunteer recruiting: Conduct outreach to individuals and groups interested in internship and volunteering and follow up with those who have volunteered and attend volunteer fairs and POTS outreach functions.
  • Volunteer database management: Ensure volunteers are scheduled efficiently, target volunteers to areas of greatest need based on schedule openings and aptitude. Coordinate with the Executive Director and development team to ensure that spaces are made available for board and donor directed volunteering.
  • Program Partner Relationship Management: POTS works with other nonprofits to provide services to clients free of charge. These nonprofits include but are not limited to legal groups, health insurance navigators, financial counselors, tax preparers and substance abuse treatment centers. 

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or 4 years of volunteer program experience.
  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Exceptional communicator including: business writing, professional interpersonal interactions, and responsive to outside requests.
  • Ability to lead and inspire volunteers.
  • Enthusiastic in performing outreach and communicating with stakeholders of all kinds. Happy to be a cheerleader for the organization.
  • Comfort with MS Office and cloud-based databases for volunteer and development purposes. 
  • Enjoys interaction with the diverse stakeholders in a nonprofit organization, including donors, volunteers, media and staff. 

Preferred Skills

  • Experience working in a human services organization.
  • For special purposes, occasionally willing to work on weekends or after hours.
  • Spanish language ability.
