The Carter Burden Network is a busy, non-profit, community based agency, seeking a Bi-lingual (English/Spanish or English/Mandarin) Health and Wellness Coordinator. This position will primarily serve the Carter Burden/Leonard Covello Senior Program (Covello), an Innovative Senior Center located in East Harlem at 312 East 109th Street (between 1st and 2nd Ave.), New York, NY, US 10029.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Educate and inspire senior participants to recognize the rewards of engaging in wellness programs and work toward achieving the goal of maintaining good health
  • Schedule, organize, prepare and deliver health and wellness presentations, classes, workshops, health fares and other related activities at Covello
  • Assist in coordinating and/or presenting health and wellness programming for other CBN sites
  • Develop educational materials for participants, as well as on-line health and wellness information to be posted on CBN's website
  • Identify barriers to participation in health and wellness programs
  • Develop promotional strategies and materials and actively market the health and wellness programs available at the Covello Program, other CBN sites and the wider community
  • Work with community organizations, public officials, hospitals, etc. to develop community events related to improving health and enhancing the senior community's well-being
  • Develop leadership skills among senior members so they can help their peers engage in programs that enhance their health
  • Review and evaluate delivery of wellness programs to ensure goals are being met
  • Coordinate and implement evidence based and research programs and collect data, produce documentation and prepare related reports
  • Track and enter program data into the Department for the Aging's database system called Peer Place and provide any additional program data and reports regarding the health and wellness programs
  • Participate in any required training's such as, evidence based initiatives, Peer Place, and other relevant training opportunities
  • Participate in supervisory meetings
  • Perform other duties as needed
  • 5-day workweek –Sunday through Thursday


  • BA in community health, public health or related field
  • At least one year of experience working with older adults
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish or English/Mandarin a must
  • Demonstrates capacity to organize and direct programs to achieve the goal of the best mental and physical health possible for participants of the Carter Burden /Leonard Covello Senior Program (Covello)
  • Good public speaking skills and ability to interact with public and private officials and other organizations is required
  • Organized and good attention to detail; strong problem-solving skills; able to work well as part of a team
  • Flexibility and willingness to take on new roles and tasks are critical
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint as well as skills in internet navigation and research
