About the Position

Delaware Shakespeare is seeking an entry level Development Associate to work closely with the Senior Development Consultant and the Producing Artistic Director to grow our donor base and funding from all sources of fundraising activity – individual giving, major gift development, grants, sponsorship and events. The Development Associate will assist with development planning and support the Development Consultant in implementing all development activities. The Development Consultant will be responsible for training the Associate and over time the Associate will take on more responsibility for development activities as s/he becomes competent in the work. This is a part-time position, beginning at 20 hours a week.

Specific Responsibilities

The Development Associate will work on any and all of the tasks listed below, initially with direction and supervision from the Development Consultant, and then, as s/he acquires the skills, more independently. The Producing Artistic Director will oversee these activities as well, reviewing the work and making final decisions when needed.

Development Associate Tasks:

• Mass appeals

o   Writing letters/e-blasts

o   Overseeing mailing production

o   Maintaining mailing and Constant Contact lists

o   Social media fundraising campaigns

• Major gift program

o   Tracking contacts with all major donors and prospects

o   Create and manage schedule of donor outreach

o   Attend grant/major donor cultivation meetings, prepare materials for them, ensure follow up

• Grant/sponsorship program

o   Grant writing and reporting

o   Tracking deadlines, submissions, reporting requirements

• Assist with event planning and execution, attend and ensure donor follow up afterward

• Attend development meetings and take meeting notes

• Developing fundraising materials – sponsorship packets, donor packets, donation cards

• Database entry and management

• Tracking results and creating fundraising updates and reports

• Manage receipt, inputting and depositing of donations

• Donation acknowledgement – thank you letters, donor recognition programs

Qualities and Qualifications

We are looking for someone bright, driven, personable and kind. Candidates must be organized, detail oriented, able to write and communicate clearly, have excellent interpersonal skills and a strong work ethic. 

No previous experience in development is required, however we’d like to see evidence of being a resourceful and creative self-starter.

A Bachelor’s degree and/or some experience in arts administration preferred, but not required.  An enthusiasm for working for a small but exciting and growing arts organization is a must!
