Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Breakthrough Sacramento, the Fund Development Associate is responsible for managing all development activities, including annual fundraising, marketing, special events, and planned giving.

Job Duties: Duties may include but are not limited to:

Donor Relations: Support the Executive Director in advancing Breakthrough Sacramento by strengthening and nurturing current funding sources, as well as developing new sources of funding from individuals, foundations, government, events, and corporations.

Events:  Facilitate, manage, and attend major fundraising events, donor gatherings, friend-making events, community events, and fundraisers, such as Big Day of Giving.

Alumni Relations: Organize the community of alumni students and alumni Teaching Interns and their families and engage them as donors, supporters, and volunteers.

Collateral Materials: Assist with the production of collateral materials that improve fundraising success.

Data/Reporting: Produce ROI reports and/or surveys to measure the success of events and opportunities for continuous improvement.

Support Team:  Recruit and engage volunteers to support major events and youth activities.

Research:  Evaluate the resources available through the Breakthrough National Collaborative to identify best practices implemented at other Breakthrough sites and assess their feasibility for Sacramento.

Calendar/Scheduling:  Maintain a calendar of Breakthrough events and community events. Schedule speaking engagements for Executive Director and self with community clubs, organizations, chambers, and community leaders. Enter contacts in CRM, schedule follow-up meetings, and send thank-you notes and emails.  

Gift Management: Process all incoming gifts (cash, pledges, matching, etc.), prepare thank-you letters and any other necessary documentation, as well as updating the CRM database.

CRM/Database Management: Maintain contact history in the database (CRM), including all proposals as well as “historical” materials related to development (news articles, annual reports, fundraising mailings, newsletters, brochures, special event info, etc.).

Strategic planning: Assist Executive Director with goal setting and progress reports.

Budget: Work in collaboration with the Executive Director to create the annual Development budget, manage budget expenditures, and submit monthly activity reports.

Reporting: Assisting the Executive Director in providing Board Members with monthly reports and updates on fundraising and additional details as requested.

Social Media:  Contribute content to social media communications (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and email blasts).

Job Skills/Experience Requirements:

·      Experience of at least three years in fund development, sales, and/or customer service

·      Success in growing sales, memberships, or increased development income

·      Familiarity and experience in the use of database systems

·      Experience with social media for marketing – Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn

·      Participation in project management, including event planning

·      Basic understanding of fundraising principles and IRS rules affecting charitable giving, ethics in fundraising, and marketing

·      Strong written and verbal communication skills, as well as good listening skills

·      Ability to work in collaboration with a small team of professionals, as well as a diverse group of volunteers and board members

·      Belief in the mission, vision and values of Breakthrough Sacramento and the successful articulation of that to potential supporters and donors

·      Experience fundraising in the Sacramento Community a plus

Education/Certifications:

·      B.A. required in Marketing, Communications or another business-related field

Job Skills Desired:

·      Use of fundraising software

·      Participation in virtual fundraising

·      Understanding of Mail Chimp, Survey Monkey, Canva, SalesForce, and other CRMs

·      Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, or equivalent Google products

·      Attention to detail

 

Job Specifications:

·      Possession of a valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation and current automobile insurance

·      Fingerprinting as required by law

·      Strength to lift up to 25 pounds

·      Ability to stand and/or sit for several hours a day
