Job Title: Development Associate

Summary Statement: Reporting to the Director of Development, the Development Associate is responsible for administering the agency’s donor database, managing gift processing and acknowledgment, and supporting other strategic initiatives as assigned by the Director of Development. He/she partners closely with the Marketing Manager, Events Manager, Volunteer Manager, and Development Intern.

Development Support

  • Primary Database administrator (Blackbaud’s Raiser's Edge and OneCause Event Management) who is responsible for ensuring accuracy and consistency of data entry.
  • Ensure that all gifts are processed and receipted.
  • Ensure donors receive appropriate acknowledgement and/or gift receipt within two weeks of date of donation.
  • Coordinate efforts for donor and acquisition mailings as they pertain to the database.
  • Categorize and balance checks, process credit card gifts and stock gifts, and perform monthly reconciliations with Finance Department.
  • Maintain accurate record keeping in the database, networked hard drive, and paper files.
  • Maintain impeccable financial records to ensure grant awards are received and booked in a timely fashion; prepare data for variance reports.

Marketing Support

  • Support the development and creation of marketing and fundraising materials.
  • Helps to prepare presentations, briefings and reports prior to events and meetings; attends pitch meetings as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with marketing manager on web and social media coordination and updates.
  • Partner with Development team on targeted outreach, solicitation strategies, and volunteer opportunities that will enhance funders’ relationship with Raphael House.
  • Coordinate the production and the mailing of fundraising appeals, newsletters and annual report, including appeal coordination, and printing.
  • Support gift acknowledgement in organization publications, including annual report.

Event Support

  • Provide support to Events Manager through payment processing using event management software (OneCause).
  • Managing on-site registration at events; coordinating set-up and break down in collaboration with Events Manager; supervising volunteers at events.
  • Represent Raphael House at tabling events, corporate/foundation functions, and speaking engagements to help build awareness and support for Raphael House.

Board of Directors

  • Serve as Board Liaison—serving as custodian of board records and taking, recording and distributing minutes for all board meetings and key committee meetings. Keep the board calendar and schedule all board events and meetings.

Volunteer Management Support

  • Assist with taking photographs of volunteers during group volunteer events and organizing the photos in our Dropbox account.
  • Lead tours when needed for volunteers, potential donors, and community member.

Required Skills

  • Proven track record of meeting and exceeding goals.
  • Proficiency with Raiser’s Edge, or similar database preferred but not required.
  • Ability to function independently and as a member of a team
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and collaborative skills.
  • Strong computer skills (Word, PowerPoint and Excel) and ability to independently compose donor letters and email communications
  • Ability to motivate and work well with volunteers, including Board of Directors.
  • Ability to work under pressure, stay flexible, and maintain sense of humor.
  • Empathy

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required. Excellent writing, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Sensitivity and understanding of the issues around homelessness and an understanding of the mission of Raphael House. Ability to work some evenings, weekends and/or longer hours. Ability to lift 20-30 lbs.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.
