Grants Manager

Reel Works seeks a full-time Grants Manager to oversee and grow our institutional giving portfolio.   Reporting to the Director of Development, the Grants Manager plays a leadership role in developing and building strong relationships with foundation, corporate and government funders and ensuring that Reel Works has the resources to serve our mission to nurture, mentor and train the next generation of filmmakers.

Responsibilities

• Conduct the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals, letters of inquiry and supporting materials, including budgets, to foundation, corporate and government funders.
• Manage a calendar of foundation, corporate and government grants and reports, track and meet all deadlines for proposals and reports.
• Perform research to evaluate prospects for corporate and foundation grants
• Partner with program team to develop new proposals and funding strategies as well as timely and accurate reporting on all activities.
• Coordinate with finance, accounting, and legal leads on financial and other components of grants as needed
• Work with development and communications team to prepare key fundraising and donor cultivation materials (such as an Annual Report, funder briefing documents, and more)
• Maintain a working knowledge of the interests and expectations of the organization’s major funders.

Essential Skills

The ideal candidate has a passion for our mission to mentor and train young filmmakers and build career pathways for underrepresented New Yorkers.  To succeed in this role, candidates must have:

• Experience managing a grants portfolio of at least $1MM that includes government, corporate and foundation funders.
• Excellent writing and verbal communication skills with the ability to draft concise,  compelling, persuasive narratives that capture our mission and impact on the young people we serve.
• Ability to think boldly, strategically and creatively in developing fundraising appeals that meet the goals of our programs and our funding partners.
• Strong networking and relationship building skills within Reel Works and among our stakeholders.
• Financial literacy and ability to draft program budgets and reports.
• Ability to implement systems for collecting evaluation metrics and program data. 

Qualifications

• At least two years of grant writing experience required
• Excellent time management and ability to manage multiple projects effectively
• Excellent computer skills including data base, word processing
• Ability to master details, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
• Ability to work independently and as an effective member of a team
• Experience with Salesforce, Asana or project management databases
• Must be available for occasional evening events
• B.A. or higher degree

Founded in 2001, Reel Works mentors, inspires, and empowers underserved NYC youth to share their stories through filmmaking, creating a springboard to successful careers in media and beyond.  We are the only youth media program that matches teens 1:1 with professional mentors to tell their stories and have their voices heard.  It’s a powerful combination that changes young lives and creates films that have been seen by tens of millions of viewers worldwide. In 2022, we will engage 1,600 teens and young adults in our free filmmaking, career exploration and job training programs for careers in media and entertainment.  All our work is centered around the conviction that when you change the storytellers, you change the world.

Salary & Benefits

Salary: $65,000 or commensurate with experience.
