Job Description:


The goal of Pacific Wild’s campaigns is to achieve the protection of biodiversity in the lands and waters of the Great Bear Rainforest while respecting the full expression of First Nations rights and title in governance and management. We work with other environmental organizations, First Nations, and researchers to inform our communications strategies, and use our capacity for visual storytelling to reach a large and diverse public audience through social media and other means.  

We’re looking for an energetic and experienced campaigner with a diverse skill set and knowledge of the Great Bear Rainforest to lead our campaigns, both on the land and water. Our marine campaigns are focussed on marine protected areas planning in the region, as well as tanker traffic and fisheries issues. The Campaigner will work with our communications team and other marine programs staff to develop and implement a campaign strategy in order to achieve our vision to protect the Great Bear Sea.


Our land campaigns include targeting BC’s wildlife management regime to improve the protection of species and habitat, specifically for wolves and grizzly bears. Focusing on a strategy that incorporates monitoring and documentation of current land and resource use plans is key to our conservation work.

Key Responsibility Areas: 


  • Coordinate with our representative and alternates on marine planning and implementation stakeholder advisory committees to track these processes and assist with feedback and strategy. 
  • Be an expert on conservation and related issues in the Great Bear Rainforest: follow current research, conservation initiatives, the status of fisheries and wildlife management, tourism, shipping, and other commercial and industrial activity in the region. 
  • Work with our communications team, First Nations liaison, as well as other organizations and stakeholders to develop strategies for public and media engagement to support conservation in the region. 
  • Develop content for public and media communications incorporating Pacific Wild’s visual assets, including written and multimedia content. 
  • Develop and build on our productive relationships with decision makers, industry, recreation, tourism and business groups, science and research bodies, and local communities. 
  • Support growing the funding base of the campaign, working with our development team and other staff to identify, secure, and report back to funders. 


Qualifications: 


  • Biology or resource management degree preferred
  • At least 3 years experience in marine planning and marine protected areas ideal
  • Experience working in the Great Bear Sea region, particularly the central coast
  • Knowledge of communities, geography, resources, and conservation issues in the region, both marine and terrestrial
  • Experience working with First Nations on the coast; knowledge of First Nations legal and policy environment in the region, and commitment to working under protocol with First Nations partners
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and implement successful advocacy campaigns
  • Experience facilitating effective and respectful alliances and campaign collaborations
  • Strong communication skills, including experience identifying media stories, writing effective web, email, and SM content
  • Ability to write for multiple formats, styles and audiences 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and remotely; willingness to work flexible hours when necessary Demonstrated ability to identify and secure campaign funding
