GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Director, Education and Latino Services, provides management and oversight of all education department programs and is responsible for creating and delivering culturally and linguistically appropriate services and activities to Latinos.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Plan and implement program goals for community and caregiver education, outreach and delivery of Latino services
  • Develop strategies that direct families and people with dementia to ALZ LA support services, volunteer opportunities, and fundraising efforts
  • Supervise designated professional and support staff, interns, volunteers and consultants
  • Oversee the implementation of delivery of federal, state and private grants to assure program outcomes, reports, and expenditures are met
  • Develop educational material, curriculum, trainings, events and products that meet the cultural & linguistic needs of the varied and diverse populations that ALZ LA serves
  • Prepare and monitor education budgets
  • Provide or coordinate Spanish translation of written materials
  • Deliver community and caregiver education, including evidence-based caregiver intervention, in English and Spanish
  • Develop and sustain community relationship and represent ALZ LA at appropriate community meetings and events, with funders and the general public
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience Required

  • Master’s degree in gerontology, social work, public health or related field
  • Three- five years experience in program development, oversight and community
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse groups
  • General knowledge of aging services and Alzheimer’s disease
  • Public speaking skills; effective writing skills
  • Bilingual/bicultural/bi-literate Spanish/English
  • Experience working in Latino and diverse communities very desirable
  • Experience in a non-profit environment desired
  • Grant writing capacity a big plus
  • Personable, able to work with caregivers & others, as well as motivate staff/volunteers
  • Culturally competent
  • Comfortable working with a variety of people in a wide range of settings
  • Able to prioritize and balance multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
