JOB SUMMARY

The Program Manager represents Healthier Generation (HG) and leads implementation of one or more of the organization’s strategies or initiatives within a defined geographic area. He/She/They must be proficient at project management, relationship building, and facilitation of training. The Program Manager advocates for needs related to social drivers of health and therefore must be well informed regarding school district and community needs, infrastructure, and programs. To effectively support equitable community health promotion, the Program Manager develops and maintains deep partner and funder relationships across sectors, including with school districts, youth-serving organizations, community or state level coalitions, and public health, government, and business collaborators. He/She/They will need to have a general understanding of the social, political, and economic environment surrounding public health within the assigned geographic area and find ways to diplomatically navigate and succeed in it. The Program Manager should have a genuine interest in and commitment to making kids’ lives healthier.


This position is partially funded from restricted regional grants, and subject to periodic renewal. This position must be worked from the MD/DC area.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

·      Identify and understand the health and well-being assets and needs of local community members and organizations, especially those historically marginalized and those facing the greatest barriers to good health.

·      Lead change management efforts to promote health and advance health equity.

·      Tailor, implement and manage the delivery of HG’s capacity building and awareness strategies and initiatives towards community, organizational and/or specific grant goals and deliverables.

·      Develop and maintain key relationships with regional funders and leverage complementary tools and assets.

·      Design and deliver professional development and technical assistance (including in-person and remote/virtual training) for districts/schools, out-of-school time providers, partner organizations, and/or other youth serving organizations to build capacity for implementing evidence-based health policies and practices.

·      With colleagues, identify and/or co-create new resources that supplement other known supports to further professional development delivery.

·      With colleagues, manage and implement digital engagement strategies and online support models for districts/schools and/or out-of-school time providers.

·      Establishes, builds, and maintains key relationships with community organizations (schools, community-based organizations, churches/faith-based organizations, healthcare providers), community entities (government, local and state coalitions), and other stakeholders, identifying their needs, working to increase awareness and engaging them in HG initiatives.

·      Cultivate, write and promote success stories, best practices and lessons learned to highlight community impact, support knowledge management and advance funding opportunities.

·      Report progress and results through formal and informal reporting procedures, including contributing to grant reports, providing project updates, and tracking progress using various technology systems, such as CRM (Customer Relationship Management).

·      Understand and promote HG’s Culture of Philanthropy by serving as an ambassador for the organization and fund development, fostering relationships in support of organizational priorities, providing funder stewardship and supporting development with project concepts.

·      With colleagues, continually identify, assess, and potentially operationalize opportunities to align and strengthen HG’s support of community health and equity efforts.

·      Other duties as assigned.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

·      Knowledge of school and youth-serving organization health and wellness and quality standards and processes.

·      Demonstrated success in managing and implementing programs in schools and/or out-of-school time organizations.

·      Effectively deliver training and technical assistance to diverse audiences.

·      Knowledge of the social determinants of health and the drivers of health inequalities.

·      Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn and navigate websites, tools, and other technology deemed necessary for the position, such as CRM, SharePoint, and Microsoft Teams.

·      Ability to absorb new information rapidly.

·      Ability to assess and identify significant opportunities and potential problems in schools and youth serving organizations and develop feasible solutions.

·      Ability to build and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders.

·      Self-driven, results-oriented with a positive and creative approach to problem-solving.

·      Plans, organizes, schedules and budgets in an efficient, productive manner.

·      Ability to manage multiple projects and be a forward planner and strategic thinker.

·      Exceptional communication, customer service and interpersonal skills, in person as well as via telephone/virtually and in writing.

·      Demonstrate a high degree of professionalism, diplomacy and integrity.

·      Entrepreneurial and flexible, with a proven ability to work with a high level of independence to prioritize assignments and organize limited resources to meet goals and deadlines.

·      Support HG’s commitment to racial equity and health equity.

·      Demonstrated knowledge and experience regarding current issues and challenges facing communities that serve Black, Indigenous, People of Color populations, as well as communities experiencing deep poverty.

·      Demonstrated knowledge and experience in cultural competency and applying an equity mindset.


OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Frequent travel by car or plane up to 30% of the time.
  • Valid driver’s license, auto insurance and ability to operate a motor vehicle required.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience working in schools, public health, out-of-school time, or other youth environments. Background working with educators and youth serving organizations preferred.
  • Experience in developing and managing relationships with diverse groups/environments and individual.
  • Experience in facilitating effective meetings and expertise in delivering learner-centered training to diverse audiences.
