ABOUT FRESHFARM

FRESHFARM is a non-profit organization whose mission is to build and strengthen the local, sustainable food movement in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. We do this by operating producer-only farmers markets that provide vital economic opportunities for local farmers and artisanal producers, and through innovative outreach programs that educate the public about food and related environmental issues.


POSITION DESCRIPTION

FRESHFARM seeks a Development Manager to help reach our philanthropy goals by: gathering and preparing information needed for grant proposals and reports, assisting with management of development events, maintaining our contact database, as well as other fundraising and contract management tasks. The Development Manager will work closely with and report to the Executive Director and support organization philanthropy efforts, as needed.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Individual and organizational donor relations and outreach (30%):

  • Support prospect research to identify new donors
  • Lead preparation for and execution of donor appeals
  • Support set up and optimization of customer relationship management (CRM) database for individual outreach and engagement, including but not limited to: entering donor information for all contributions and maintaining accurate database; ensure accuracy of data via periodic cleanups, merging duplicates, reducing redundancies; serve as main point of contact with CRM platform representatives
  • Produce donor acknowledgments
  • Generate reports from database as needed for analysis, events, and special mailings
  • Oversee and maintain online donation platforms

Reports and Proposals (30%):

  • Lead research to identify new grant and development opportunities
  • Draft letters of inquiry and portions of grant proposals
  • Maintain proposal calendar and provide administrative support for the proposal process (identify all needs, gather and upload resources, draft sections)
  • Ensure grant award letters are scanned, returned to the donor, and filed
  • Maintain reporting calendar, alert program teams, and assist with report preparation

Events (30%):

  • Provide event planning and project management for development events throughout the year
  • Solicit and organize donations for fundraising auction
  • Schedule calls with event committees, take and distribute notes
  • Provide additional event assistance as requested

Communications & Outreach Support (10%):

  • Gather and organize elements of donor and organizational communications
  • Support efforts to collect stories of the impact of FRESHFARM programs
  • Provide social media support
  • Support other communication and outreach activities as needed, including support partner events as FRESHFARM representative


REQUIRED SKILLS AND STRENGTHS

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Fluency with Microsoft Suite and managing CRM databases (i.e., Salesforce)
  • Ability to appropriately prioritize and manage multiple projects at once
  • Self-motivated and responsive; willingness to work independently and as part of a team
  • Passion for FRESHFARM's mission to support the growth of local food economy, public outreach and engagement, and serve as a leader among regional sustainability efforts


EDUCATIONAL & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of relevant experience
