The Accountant, reporting directly to the Assistant Controller, is primarily responsible for management of federal, state and city as well as private and foundation grants, along with bank reconciliations and general insurance request management. This position is also responsible for maintaining timely and accurate agency financial records in accordance with standard fiscal practices and requirements of funders.
- Monitor and report individual program expenditures and income; Review Requests for Payments for assigned contracts and programs
- Responsible for assigned government contract management, including communication with funding sources
- Enter voucher details and ensure their timely preparation and submission, along with expenditure justifications
- Forecast budget variances based on analysis of spending; provide routine budget reports to Controller/Chief Financial Officer, Executive staff and Program management
- Prepare program budgets/modifications in collaboration with Assistant Controller in a timely manner
- Ensure that the Accounting and Financial policies & procedures are being followed
- Conduct monthly analysis of Trial Balance/General Ledger and perform adjustments as needed
- Prepare monthly reconciliation of all bank accounts
- Prepare materials and records for program audits and year-end working papers for auditors
- Manage general insurance portfolio; main point of contact with Brokers and provide certificates when requested
- Perform additional duties as requested by management
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field is required
- 1-2 years of Accounting experience (one year in not-for-profit) required
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Minimum of intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel required
- Detail oriented, good communication (oral and written) and analytical skills
- Prior experience with Intacct software preferred
