The Field Coordinator is responsible for providing high-quality, outdoor education experiences to youth and helping volunteers connect youth groups to The Mountaineers. This position will oversee our Pioneers (age 7-9) and Explorers (age 10-13) year round clubs programs, with additional opportunities with our teen club and other youth programs. This is a full time position paying $17- $19 an hour dependent on experience. The expected work schedule is 40 hours per week including evening and weekend hours.

 

What you will do: 

Work closely with the Associate Youth Program Manager to plan and execute clubs programming

  • Attend evening meetings (approximately 2-3 times monthly) and clubs trips, which occur primarily on weekends
  • Facilitate parent and volunteer engagement activities, including leadership training and outdoor skill training
  • Develop annual progression of skills for new and returning members
  • Empower and support parents to lead trips they are qualified to lead

Planning & Preparation 

  • Ensure supplies are ordered as needed
  • Ensure outside vendors and/or transportation vendors are booked as needed
  • Prepare schedules and training modules
  • Ensure rooms/space is booked for meetings and training events
  • Work with parents to plan trips and prepare trip planning documents

 Communication and Logistics

  • Serve as a first point of contact for all parent and youth communications for Explorers and Pioneers
  • Communicate frequently and clearly to members and parents
  • Communicate with prospective members, ensuring they have the information needed to join
  • Collect & file all member paperwork
  • Collect and file all staff and volunteer paperwork
  • Ensure all trip and activity data is recorded and accurate


Who you are: 

  • Knowledge, desire to, and experience working with young populations between the age of 6-13
  • Outdoor Education experience, especially in experiential education
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including 2-4 weekends/month
  • Opportunity to safely lead sport climbs at a 5.6/5.7 level, building climbing anchors, and rappelling
  • Strong organization skills
  • Positive attitude and ability to carry oneself in a professional manner to create positive experiences with community partner programs
  • Self-motivated with ability to carry out projects independently and work within a team
  • Familiarity with Google suite and Microsoft office software
  • Understanding of the organizational structure and programs of The Mountaineers
  • Current First Aid & CPR certification or willingness to obtain

Benefits

This position is for a full time non-exempt employee, averaging 40 hours per week. Hours vary between weekdays, weekends, daytime and evenings. Starting pay range is $17-$19 per hour. Benefits include Medical and Dental insurance, paid sick and vacation time, and access to retirement fund after one year of employment. Also included are Mountaineers membership and access to Mountaineers classes.
