The Role

Your role stands at the intersection of helping elect and protect education champions (at the state and local level) and the fight to change the odds for low-income children and families. As a key member of Stand’s national leadership team, you work closely with the leaders of Stand’s 10 state-based affiliates to help champion their electoral campaign work as well as provide assistance, as needed, to support ballot initiatives. You also collaborate with other national team service providers (marketing/communications and family engagement and organizing) to offer best in class support of Stand’s affiliates. Through your innovative and strategic leadership, and close coordination with key internal and external partners, you will help take Stand’s impact to new heights by helping to recruit, develop, and support candidates who are education champions and promote ballot initiatives and referendums that put children’s needs first.

·        Provide leadership and technical expertise to Stand for Children’s 10 state affiliates as it relates to the planning, strategy, and execution of all aspects of electoral campaigns including the recruitment of aligned and electable candidates. Specific support may include one or more of the following activities:

o   polling, targeting, vendor selection, creation and execution of field plans, voter contact, GOTV, constituency outreach and engagement, voter file analysis, creation of walk lists, and best practices generally

·        Advise states on PAC and IE strategy and ensure states have appropriate training, support and/or legal counsel on campaign finance law

·        Lead efforts to build a scalable candidate recruitment and training system

·        Provide leadership in the transition to a new voter file platform

·        Coordinate with state affiliates on endorsement processes and member involvement

·        Track progress toward affiliate and organization electoral goals monthly as well as create ad hoc reports for various stakeholders

·        Analyze all elections to identify successes and failures which may lead to modifying future campaign plans

·        Work directly with candidates to organize and execute campaign plans, as deemed necessary

·        Provide timely and relevant training to state affiliates and their respective campaign staff

·        Build and maintain relationships with partner organizations

·        Other campaign related activities as needed


·        Passion for advocacy and unwavering belief in that all children can and must graduate from high school prepared for and with access to college or career training

·        At least ten years’ experience in electoral campaigns including managing campaign staff

·        Experience managing a campaign(s) via a matrix management framework, highly preferred

·        High-level expertise using voter files and digital communications

·        Experience creating and leading in-person trainings and webinars for volunteers and staff audiences

·        Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills; including the ability to analyze and synthesize information

·        Exhibit a collaborative and empowering leadership and management style

·        Have a solutions-oriented approach with a willingness to take initiative, while juggling several priorities that may change quickly

·        Have high energy, enthusiasm, positive attitude, and a sense of humor

·        Be creative, innovative, and forward thinking

·        Experience managing some aspect of a GOTV operation with VAN or a voter file database

·        Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously

·        Ability to work successfully with a diverse group of staff, volunteers, and external partners

·        Proven track record of excellent follow-through and accountability

·        Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail

·        Excellent data analysis and problem-solving skills

·        Willingness to travel, especially during election cycles

·        Roles typically require the ability to be stationary for extended periods of time, to travel to meetings outside of the office, to lift more than 10 pounds on occasion, and may require the ability to climb stairs
