The Communications Manager will manage content creation to increase revenue by identifying, developing, and leveraging compelling wish stories; creating and managing copy and creative; and ensuring effective communications and marketing practices internally.

The Communications Manager will:

• Write and coordinate wish stories and organizational copy to utilize for the greatest impact and increase revenue.

• Working with the appropriate departments and collaborating with the Director of Marketing and Communications, manage the text content creation and/or editing of all chapter collateral, including but not limited to: e-newsletters, print newsletters, donor acknowledgements, fact sheets, campaign overview sheets, buck slips (inserts), PowerPoint presentations, event programs, volunteer communications, blogs, wish stories, chapter brochures, displays, signs, posters, Program Services materials, and all other internal/external communication content.

• Create content for social media.

• Create, edit, and send chapter marketing emails and newsletters.

• Collaborate on the management of marketing and communications calendar and oversee implementation of content.

• Create content for local cause-marketing promotions.

• Update, create and manage website content.

• Interface with Mission Delivery to identify compelling wish stories suitable and approved to share with the public.

• Work with wish families and Mission Delivery to capture, create and share wish and donor stories to be told through integrated channels (print, social media, video, etc.).

• Assist with developing and manage in-kind and paid vendor relationships (i.e., video production, printing, etc.)

• Manage Google AdWords account.

• Maintain and update photo, video, and story archive.

• Adhere to all Make-A-Wish® America performance standards and Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic internal controls, policies, and procedures.

• Protect the chapter’s brand identity and ensures its use in keeping with current Make-A-Wish America standards.

• Required attendance at chapter events as necessary in support of the Foundation’s mission.

• Other duties as assigned.

Level of Language Proficiency

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Communications or similar field; or equivalent work experience

• Experience: Three (3) years of experience building and maintaining relationships with media, businesses, and community members

• Computer/System Skills: Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Raiser’s Edge or database management software and Drupal or similar web CRM preferred.

• Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None

• Other Requirements: Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.

• Excellent written communication and copywriting skills.

• Knowledge of social media, web, and e-marketing best practices.

• Ability to design and create content with adhesion to brand guidelines.

• High attention to detail especially with written and external communications.

• Ability to interpret guidelines and procedures and analyze the proper response if faced with a problem.

• Ability to work with others outside of the organization.

• Ability to exemplify a “can-do” work ethic and attitude.

• Ability to work with minimal supervision, ability to manage multiple priorities, and work in a deadline-driven environment.

• Ability to demonstrate a high level of professional demeanor and work successfully clearly with a wide variety of constituents including donors, board members, volunteers, wish families and vendors.

• Ability to demonstrate a high level of integrity, trustworthiness, flexibility, compassion, and humor necessary to address the practicalities of a growing nonprofit, along with the creativity and persistence required to elicit new thinking and change.
