Special Education Instructional Assistant Job Description

The special education teaching assistant is an additional adult that serves to assist Roseville Community Charter School teachers and students in their fulfillment of the school‘s mission.


Responsibilities

·        Exemplify, advocate and operationalize the mission, vision and core values of the school

·        Teach and reinforce all school-wide expectations, systems, and routines

·        Assist in the implementation of students individualized education plans

·        Serve as a shared aide or one-on-one aide for students, as directed by individualized education plans

·        Under the direction of both the classroom teacher (s) and student IEPs, implement modifications and accommodations as appropriate

·        Provide academic support to students individually and in small groups in order to ensure mastery of skills and concepts

·        Assist with the data collection and analysis of student performance to inform effective and implement instructional practices

·        Assist in student the arrival and departure, transitions between class periods, and lunch periods

·        Attend a minimum of seven school-wide evening events per year

·        Complete other relevants tasks as assigned by the lead teacher or administrative team


Qualifications and Certifications

·        New Jersey paraprofessional certification

·        Minimum of 60 earned college credits

·        Firm belief in the ability of all students to achieve at high levels, and high expectations for low-income children to become college ready and attend selective universities

·        Minimum of 3 years experience teaching special education students

·        Demonstrated ability to work well in a team, especially with parents and community members

·        Firm belief in the ability of all students to achieve at high levels, and high expectations for low-income children to become college-ready and excel at selective universities

·        Openness to feedback, willingness to take personal responsibility, and a desire to learn from others

·        Unwavering in pursuit of excellence even in the face of difficult opposition and challenges
