Our High Expectations program works with middle school students (6th-8th grade), their families and communities to provide academic and youth leadership enrichment through after-school and Saturday programs. High Expectations integrates academic enrichment and experiential learning that begins the students’ preparation for acceptance into New York City’s top public high schools and introduces them to college preparation. By familiarizing students with the benefits of higher education as early as the sixth grade, HEAF focuses our participants’ long-term vision and offers them the tools, resources and social-emotional support necessary to thrive in college and career.

Position Description: The Queens Manager will be responsible for designing and managing the daily operations of the middle school program and reports directly to the Interim Director of High Expectations. The Queens Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of programming in Queens.


Job Type: Full Time

Schedule: Remote School Year: Monday - Friday 11:00-7:00 

                  Summer: Monday - Friday 8:00-4:00


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Programming Planning and Management:

●      Recruit, hire and supervise qualified teachers

●      Hire and manage part time Queens Coordinator

●      Develop and lead instructor and tutor orientations

●      Supervise, observe, and provide feedback to teaching staff to ensure that quality curriculum is being delivered in classrooms

●      Work with students to develop skills such as organization, time management, and effective study habits

●      Manage and track program budget expenditures

●      Lead relationship with host site and community-based partners

●      Identify & cultivate additional community-based partners

●      Serve as an ambassador for the Queens program

●      Plan program events such as college tours, career exposure series, graduation

Student and Family Engagement:

●      Correspond with parents and students via e-mail and phone regarding attendance, student behavior, academics, and upcoming events/opportunities

●      Provide counseling to parents and students during high school application process

●      Articulate organization mission and programmatic goals to parents and students

●      Coordinate and support parent meetings as needed

Administrative & Data Management:

●      Manage program database & maintain all student records and files

●      Monitor and report on student progress, academic performance and attendance

●      Ensure students meet HEAF academic/attendance requirements

●      Generate written program reports and other reports as requested by other departments

●      Collaborate with schools and parents to obtain student report cards and transcripts

●      Monitor and order program supplies and meals


General Job Requirements:

●      Bachelor's Degree and 1-3 years experience teaching, counseling or working with adolescents in an educational environment

●      Strong verbal, written and computer skills are essential (knowledge of Salesforce is a plus)

●      Bilingual (Spanish/English) candidates are highly encouraged to apply

●      Outstanding collaborative skills and organizational skills

●      Willingness to learn and utilize progressive program and instructional models

●      Strong work ethic

●      Willingness to promote HEAF educational and youth development philosophy

●      Virtual learning and teaching experience/comfortable with Zoom
