The Director will also help hire and then manage a marketing and communications associate and/or interns within a year.

·       Compensation: $75,000 - $90,000 (includes generous benefits package)

·       Helped Connecticut develop and pass the first mattress recycling law in the U.S., becoming a model for similar laws passed in California and Rhode Island.

·       Led a national coalition that changed the federal law and subsequent regulations to allow pharmacies to collect controlled prescription drugs, increasing consumer convenience and lowering costs.

In this critical role, the Director of Marketing and Communications will work with PSI’s highly collaborative team to promote the organization’s mission and brand, design and implement goal-oriented outreach and education campaigns on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) and product stewardship policies and programs, and develop and promote PSI’s educational webinars, lunch & learns, conferences and other events. This position requires a thorough understanding of the EPR competitive landscape and PSI’s unique value proposition, well as an ability to articulate that value proposition across media platforms in a way that advances our mission, expands our network, and fuels the product stewardship movement in North America.

The PSI team is fortunate to be able to work from home and plans to do so until a SarsCoV2 vaccine is available. Until then, it is preferable but not required to be based out of the Boston, Mass. area.

  • Seek out, coordinate, and help develop content for thought leadership pieces and speaking engagements for PSI’s CEO and policy staff.
  • Design and implement outreach and education plans, including creating educational materials (e.g., flyers, infographics, videos, podcasts, webinars, PSA’s, social media), for PSI’s mission-driven projects, working closely with the policy staff to ensure timely completion within budget.
  • Help craft and edit funding proposals for grants, foundations, members, partners, and individuals.

The Product Stewardship Institute (PSI) PSI is a national nonprofit organization that safeguards the welfare of people and the planet by minimizing the health and environmental impacts from consumer products and packaging across their lifecycle. We believe that manufacturers have a responsibility to internalize the costs of safely managing, reusing, and recycling the products they create. We work on over 20 product categories, including packaging, electronics, pharmaceuticals, paint, carpet, mattresses, textiles, and solar panels. At its core, PSI is a convener, spanning the chasm between the public and private sectors to develop solutions that work for business and the environment. We accomplish clear results with the support of 47 state environmental agencies and hundreds of local governments (which represent our members), and over 125 companies, organizations, universities, and non-U.S. governments (which represent our partners).
