Director of Development

COME WORK WITH US! We are looking for a Director of Development, responsible for the strategic planning and execution of activities to generate income streams for the organization, overseeing the Volunteer department and Fundraising & Communications department.

At Organization for the Development of the Indigenous Maya (ODIM) we provide community-driven, high quality and culturally competent health and education services to the indigenous communities of San Juan and San Pablo la Laguna in Guatemala. Our services include two medical clinics as well as a dental clinic. With the intention of preventing ill health, an elevated quality of life and creating sustainable change, we also have five community health and education programs. We employ 48 staff in the two communities of San Juan and San Pablo la Laguna - 86% of which are Tz’utujil Maya.

Working in two rural towns of San Juan and San Pablo La Laguna (at Lake Atitlán). Working from home is encouraged during the pandemic, with some office work / days in the field. The successful candidate will need to be located at the lake and must commit to two or more years with ODIM.

Major Responsibilities

1. Work with the Executive Director on strategic income planning to maximizing gifts from existing as well as new supporters of ODIM 
2. Build and sustain strong relationships with mid level and major donors, board members and key volunteers through calls, emails, video, and reports. Oversee communications (plans and execution) with all supporters in conjunction with the Fundraising & Communications Manager.
3. Develop, supervise and carry out execution of campaigns, events, grants, sponsorship, and other income generating activities; to include in person and online events, digital and direct mail campaigns, attracting and retaining sponsors for program beneficiaries, seeking, writing and reporting grants.
4. Work with Programs staff and ODIM beneficiaries to connect donors to the work on the ground through communications as well as volunteer opportunities. Accurately and sensitively reflect the work of the organization and create mutually beneficial relationships between volunteers, donors and the organization.
5. Manage, support and empower the Volunteer Program Manager and Fundraising & Communications Manager to ensure that we meet our income goals and continue to grow the ODIM family. Work within the Key Leadership team to provide mutual support to other organizational management staff and to develop a deep understanding of the organization's work. 

Willingness to be involved in both high level strategic planning, as well as supporting day to day activities of a small NGO.

Reports to Executive Director

Supervises Volunteer Program Manager and Fundraising & Communications Manager (possibly other staff members in these two departments in the future).
