The Opportunity 

The Managing Director of Human Resources (MDHR) oversees a five to six person HR team supporting over 300 year-round employees at our properties across the Commonwealth and over 700 employees during our peak seasonal months. 

 

As a champion of The Trustees’ mission, culture and values, the MDHR partners with the Executive Team, Leadership Team, and senior managers to provide guidance on leading their teams, navigating and resolving employee relations issues, and creating programs that develop our talented staff. In advancing the organization’s diversity, belonging, inclusion, and equity strategies, the MDHR ensures that The Trustees recruits, supports, and develops talented and diverse professionals. 

 

Additionally, the MDHR is responsible for strategy and oversight in compensation and benefits; employment policies and procedures; regulatory compliance; onboarding and offboarding; performance management; and employee engagement. 

 

In This Role You Will 

  • Formulate and implement processes, policies, systems, and innovative initiatives that support and develop The Trustees internal culture 
  • Advise on compensation decisions and administer compensation programs toward achieving internal and external equity and meeting compliance requirements 
  • Collaborate closely with Executive and Leadership Teams to drive staff satisfaction and engagement through response to staff satisfaction surveys, exit interviews, and other forms of feedback 
  • Work integrally with Executive and Leadership Teams to reinforce a culture that supports our mission and values and that nurtures a culture of diversity, belonging, equity, and inclusion 
  • Ensure that a strong performance management and talent development model is in place and guide executives and managers through successful use of these models, especially in developing  career advancement, recognition, and professional development programs  
  • Coordinate management training in interviewing, hiring, terminations, performance management, safety, sexual harassment, and other relevant programs 
  • Coach managers on personnel issues and proactive performance management 
  • Ensure managers are supported in developing job descriptions, recruiting, interviewing, and hiring, with a specific emphasis on thoughtful sourcing strategies to build diverse candidate pools, talent pipelines, and partnerships 
  • Oversee benefits programs such as life, health, disability insurances, retirement plans, flexible savings accounts, vacation, sick leave, leave of absence, and employee assistance; negotiate with vendors and carriers to provide comprehensive and competitive benefit plans  
  • Oversee the worker’s compensation, unemployment, and COBRA insurance programs 
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends, employment legislation, and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions to ensure policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance 

Other Information

Requirements 

The Managing Director of Human Resources should possess a BS/BA in related field, or equivalent experience, with a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in Human Resources with emphasis in the following areas: diversity and inclusion, policy creation and implementation, employee relations, training and development, compensation and benefits, insurance programs, and legal issues.   

 

The candidate should have a balanced focus regarding both employee and management needs in addition to excellent communication (written, verbal and listening) skills for interacting with people at all levels. Must be able to work independently on complex human resources issues, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines. 

 

This position requires occasional evening and weekend work as job duties demand. Travel to other Trustees’ work sites in Massachusetts is required.
