Learning Rights Law Center

Learning Rights Law Center (“LRLC”) is a nonprofit organization that provides legal services on behalf of students not receiving an equitable public education.  


LRLC currently focuses its efforts on the most vulnerable K-12 low-income students who: 1) Have learning disabilities and/or learning difficulties; 2) Are challenged by language, disability, sexual orientation, homelessness or inadequate facilities; and 3) Are involved in the child welfare or juvenile justice systems. LRLC addresses the crisis in the education system through advocacy, litigation, training and community organizing.



Calendaring and Legal Assistant position is a under the supervision of the Paralegal Manager. This position is from 8:30 am to 5:00pm or 9:00 am to 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday at LRLC’s DTLA office.



  • An interest in Learning Rights’ mission and work
  • Experience working in a law office including management of a legal calendar, minimum of one year required
  • Excellent, time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have a positive attitude and approach to all situations and requests
  • Must Have Strong attention to detail with multitasking ability
  • Ability to prioritize and work independently, as well as in a team
  • Strong computer skills required (Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook)
  • Comfortable with high volumes of paper
  • Experience with office equipment (fax, copier, etc.)
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish required
  • College degree preferred


The Calendar and Legal Assistant will have responsibilities as follows:


  • Performs all clerical tasks surrounding the schedule of court proceedings;
  • Tracks, anticipate and process all internal deadlines and court notices for appearances, continuances and mediations
  • Review and analyze calendars of staff attorneys and required admin regarding deadlines
  • Assist in coordination with outside counsel, court clerks and other calendaring professionals
  • Speak with clients to coordinate and confirm scheduling deadlines
  • Troubleshoot and support legal staff regarding the docket/calendar process and policies.
  • Maintain daily communication with staff attorneys regarding management of deadlines and schedule changes

Legal Support

  • Provide oral Spanish/English interpretation and translation as needed
  • Process all documents received from the administrative court
  • Assist with filing legal documents/correspondence for attorneys, as needed
  • Request, schedule deadlines and monitor receipt of answers to written records requests
  • Some travel may be necessary
  • Provide other administrative and legal support as needed


Salary Range/Benefits: $17 - $20 per hour depending on qualifications and experience for 40 hours per week. Includes full health and dental benefits, paid federal and state holidays, plus paid vacation and sick leave, and commuter benefits.
