The Cambridge Matignon School is a 400-student, co-ed, Catholic High School located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Matignon serves a diverse population of learners in a caring, college-preparatory environment. Matignon is looking for a Finance Director to manage a $5 million+ operation. Candidates should have prior school experience, or be able to demonstrate how their finance skills would translate into an academic setting. The Finance Director reports directly to the Assistant Head of School for External Affairs. Responsibilities include the following: 


  • In collaboration with the Assistant Head of School and Business Office personnel, to apply standard accounting policies and procedures, to maintain an accurate record of the financial position of the school and manage the school’s financial operations ensuring that the institution remains financially strong. 


  • To assist in the preparation of quarterly financial statements including the operating statement, balance sheet, and statement of cash flow for the Head of School and Assistant Head of School, as well as the Board of Trustees. 


  • To maintain the general ledger, utilizing Quickbooks, by ensuring the accurate recording of transactions and by performing necessary reconciliations on a timely basis.


  • To perform analysis of actual income and expenses against budget on a quarterly basis for each budget center within the school and update the Head of School and Assistant Head of School on the results of the analysis.


  • To establish a timetable and coordinate the preparation of the annual budget which will permit the setting of the succeeding year’s tuition at a Board of Trustees meeting early in the calendar year. 


  • To assist the independent auditors in performing the annual audit of the school’s financial records and financial statements. 


  • To work with the Admissions Office and school leadership team in determining appropriate allocation levels of financial assistance and to identify key metrics needed to ensure long-term tuition assistance sustainability.


  • To oversee the management of tuition including billing, collection, and assistance to families with payment plans.


  • To oversee and be responsible for all school purchasing, accounts payable, financial investments, cash management, and other financial activities. 


  • To oversee and be responsible for human resource activities including payroll, employee compensation, benefits and onboarding new employees.


  • To manage and coordinate the work of the Business Office staff. 
  • To conduct periodic evaluation of school operations, vendors, contracts, and accounts to ensure that maximum cost efficiencies are achieved.


  • To manage risk at the school to ensure the safety of personnel and students in their use of the facilities and to maintain appropriate levels of insurance to protect the property and to cover the liability of the school. 


  • To develop and maintain effective and positive relationships with all vendors, financial institutions, and other partners of the school.


  • To design, develop, and implement all necessary policies and procedures relative to business operations to ensure that the school operates in an effective and efficient manner.


  • To be responsible for all necessary compliance reporting.


  • To serve as a staff member of the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees.


  • To perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School and Assistant Head of School. 


  • To support and positively contribute to the mission of the school and its leadership. 


  • To interact and collaborate with colleagues, students, families, and all members of the Matignon community in a respectful and equitable manner.


  • The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of financial management experience and an understanding of a school business setting.
