    The Opportunity

    As the Volunteer Development Specialist, you will be at the heart of our efforts to ensure that Girl Scout volunteers have the tools, knowledge, and confidence to lead. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys developing creative curricula and facilitating learning experiences for adult volunteers. Your work will have a direct impact on adults who are shaping the future generation of Girl Scouts, providing them with the skills to lead troop meetings, manage group dynamics, and foster a positive environment for youth to thrive.

    What You’ll Be Doing

    • Developing and delivering high-quality training through a variety of formats, including in-person sessions, webinars, and online learning modules.
    • Creating online tutorials using platforms like Articulate 360 and Litmos Learning Management System to ensure flexible learning options for volunteers.
    • Collaborating with subject matter experts across Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital and with volunteer committees to design and update curricula.
    • Simplifying complex Girl Scout concepts and programs for clear, accessible communication in training and materials.
    • Building strong relationships with volunteers through ongoing support and coaching, fostering their confidence and leadership skills.
    • Participating in council-wide task groups and committees to contribute your expertise in volunteer development.
    • Creating engaging and well-structured presentations and training materials that resonate with diverse audiences.
    • Supporting the mission of Girl Scouts by ensuring volunteers have the resources and skills they need to succeed.

    What We’re Looking For

    We’re seeking a candidate who is driven by a passion for education and volunteerism and can create impactful learning experiences. Here’s what will make you successful in this role:

    • Background in facilitation, training, or adult education, with experience in curriculum development.
    • Knowledge of best practices in adult education and volunteer training.
    • Proficiency with online training software (experience with Articulate 360 is a plus!).
    • Experience with learning management systems (e.g., Litmos).
    • Strong collaboration skills, especially when working with volunteers, staff, and committees.
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present information clearly and confidently.
    • Experience working with volunteers is a plus, and knowledge of Girl Scouting is preferred.
    • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
    • Access to reliable transportation for travel related to council activities in DC, MD, VA, and WV.

    The starting salary for this position is $52,000.
