Case Manager - Counseling Center

 Summary

The Safe Horizon Counseling Center (SHCC) Intake Case Manager provides comprehensive telephonic services to individual clients and families impacted by violence (domestic violence, rape, sexual abuse, etc.). The services provided by the Intake Case Manager include safety assessment, risk management, phone counseling, scheduling of appointments at the SHCC (and satellites) with prospective clients as well as the provision of information and referrals to service providers within and outside Safe Horizon. The Intake Case Manager provides advocacy for prospective clients as necessary. In addition, the Intake Case Manager coordinates with referring programs within Safe Horizon as well as with local agencies to connect survivors of violence with the best service to meet their needs. An important strategic goal of this position is that the Intake Case Manager will increasingly align our telephonic practice with that which is provided elsewhere at Safe Horizon – specifically, at the Community Program Helpline.

Responsibilities:

• Learn and integrate a trauma-informed, client-centered approach, using an anti-oppressive lens, into your work with clients. 
• Conducts telephonic intake and assessment with individuals seeking assistance; 
• Conducts intakes and assessments in-person when clinically necessary as assigned by the Supervising Social Worker of the Intake Unit;
• Provides short-term crisis intervention to survivors of crime; 
• Engages in safety assessment and risk management; 
• Provides information and referrals for other Safe Horizon services and schedules appointment for clients interested in receiving trauma-focused outpatient treatment at an SHCC site;
• Provides information regarding public assistance and other entitlements; 
• Connects clients with assistance completing OVS applications;
• Conducts safety assessment and risk management and provides information and referral to clients who walk in without an appointment;
• Supports SHCC’s transition to live calls, centralized scheduling, open access and other quality improvement initiatives;
• Performs data entry into a computerized record keeping system;
• Verifies insurance coverage as necessary; and
• Maintains cooperative working relationships with other Safe Horizon staff members and other service providers.

Qualifications:

• Phone presence and the ability to interact well with clients telephonically;
• Sensitivity towards and understanding of victimization, especially the experience of survivors of domestic violence;
• Strong communication and organizational skills; 
• Excellent interpersonal skills, appropriate assertiveness, and good organizational skills;
• Ability to work under pressure in a calm and reassuring manner;
• Demonstrated ability to work independently;
• Basic understanding of computer and systems for managing case records
• BA or BS Degree preferred or equivalent relevant work or internship experience within the victim assistance or criminal justice field
• One year of experience working in a social service setting or with victims of domestic violence   
• Some evenings and Saturdays required
