Overview

For almost 50 years, Covenant House has served and advocated for youth and young families experiencing homelessness, human trafficking, and exploitation. Our overarching goal is to end homelessness among youth and young families by helping them achieve housing stability, heal from trauma, tap into their innate resilience, and hone their interests and skills to forge new pathways to independence. This work is carried out across Covenant House sites in 31 cities in the US, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua.


Primary Responsibilities

Reporting to the VP, Marketing Optimization & Digital Experience, the Senior Web Developer will have an opportunity to build web experiences that solve unique challenges and provide opportunities for creative problem solving to build high-quality, dynamic web and digital experiences. The Senior Web Developer will play a central role in adopting best practices, driving innovation, and developing a best-in-class digital experience for Covenant House donors, prospects, and followers. They will retain internal ownership of Covenant House website properties, Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, and digital analytic tools across Covenant House’s web properties, with responsibility for managing staff and vendors. 


Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, code, & implement new user experience functionality for websites, microsites, donation forms, and other digital and social media assets and properties
  • Translate custom designs into functional, responsive, cross-browser compatible web experiences within Covenant House CMS Platform
  • Support the organization's upcoming strategic website re-architecture and redesign project
  • Lead large-scale development projects including planning and estimates, coordinating with vendors and stakeholders, and executing with limited guidance
  • Participate in and facilitate growth within our web development team to build flexible, scalable, and maintainable websites and assets
  • Work with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into an innovative and engaging website and online user experiences
  • Manage testing and integration of 3rd party JavaScript code through Google Tag Manager for user experience tools - online surveys, multivariate testing, web accessibility, etc.
  • Wireframe and mockup new landing pages, website sections, CMS components, and other user experience design changes
  • Lead web domain strategy across CHI properties
  • Ensure site functionality and user experience changes are following best practice usability standards and W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 AA
  • Support user acceptance testing for software functionality changes within Test and Production environments


Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Web Development, or equivalent experience
  • 5-7 years of web development experience creating and supporting data-driven websites using Drupal/WordPress including custom module development
  • Experience working with frontend technologies (JavaScript, jQuery, HTML, CSS)
  • Experience using Git for source control
  • A solid knowledge base of the Software Development Life Cycle (including requirements, design, implementation, and testing)
  • Proficient with Web hosting tools and enhancing site load optimization
  • Capability and experience managing Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager platforms
  • Adept with Conversion Rate Optimization, Web UX strategy, Search Engine Optimization, A/B, and Multivariate Testing
  • Working knowledge of database technologies and SQL
  • Understanding of UI/UX design concepts 
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to listen, articulate, facilitate and advocate
  • Excellent problem solving and creative thinking skills
  • Strong ability to self-motivate and think analytically
  • Deadline driven with strong attention to detail
  • Motivated to research and learn about new technologies and practices
