KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Paralegal is a full-time employee of the Trust providing support for legal matters on Governors Island. The Paralegal will report directly to the Trust’s General Counsel. The paralegal will also work closely with the Trust’s Counsel, the New York City Law Department, which provides outside counsel services pursuant to an agreement between the Trust and the City, as well as outside law firms retained by the Trust.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Oversee all preparations for Board of Director meetings.
  • Administer Trust contracts.
  • Review and track receipts of insurance certificates and other required deliverables from contract parties, tenants, licensees and permittees.
  • Maintain all legal files for the Department.
  • Assist in preparing all documents to comply with all reporting requirements of New York’s Public Authorities Reform Act (“PARA”).
  • Monitor developments in case law, legislation and regulatory matters for effects on the activities of The Trust.
  • Other projects and duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • College graduate with strong academic record.

Experience:

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively, multi-task, set priorities and meet required deadlines.
  • Experience with construction, environmental, land use and permitting issues.
  • Experience with not-for-profit entities.
  • Strong communication and writing skills.
  • Organizational skills to prioritize and timely accomplish tasks.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Experience with PASSPort, Doing Business Forms and PARA filings a plus.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent communication and project management skills, ability to comprehend and coordinate logistics across a range of subject matters, identifying issues and mitigating problems before they occur.
  • Ability to be flexible, make sound professional judgments, and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • High level of self-organization, autonomy and discipline.
