The Coachella Valley (CV) Organizer is a part-time, non-exempt position that will be supervised by the Policy Director. The CV Organizer is responsible for coordinating outreach & education efforts on ICIJ & Partner Organization campaigns, projects, Know Your Rights (KYR), and services throughout the Coachella Valley. With guidance and co-leadership from organizational & community partners, the CV Organizer will co-lead advocacy efforts. Through their outreach & education efforts, they will reach, recruit, inform and engage community members in the work of the ICIJ.  

The CV Organizer is expected to uphold the values and mission of ICIJ in their daily work. We expect individuals to represent ideals of integrity, respect, accountability, compassion and leadership. 

Outreach & Education Objectives: 

  • Coordinate and organize weekly on-the-ground and digital outreach & education events that will reach immigrant communities throughout the Coachella Valley. 
  • Track the number of people that were reached through outreach & education efforts. 
  • Co-lead the day-to-day operations of the ICIJ Resources Hotline and ensure calls are answered, intakes are completed, and follow-up is conducted to callers.
  • Recruit, train, and mobilize volunteers to support:
  • Outreach & Education 
  • ICIJ Resources Hotline 
  • KYR Presentations
  • Co-develop or research outreach materials to conduct meaningful local outreach & education events & workshops.
  • Coordinate legal clinics & events with ICIJ Partners to provide immigration legal services to Coachella Valley immigrant communities. 
  • Identify and foster relationships with Coachella Valley stakeholders that are currently working with local immigrant communities:
  • Organizations
  • Labor Unions 
  • Elected Officials 
  • Community Leaders 
  • Other tasks as identified. 

Policy Advocacy Objectives:

  • Actively support local, state, and national policy advocacy efforts that improve the lives of immigrants that live or work in the Coachella Valley.
  • Recruit and train community members to join policy advocacy campaigns that impact the Coachella Valley. 
  • Other tasks as identified. 

Experience and Skills Required 

  • 1 year of experience working in or coordinating a community-based program.
  • Excellent interpersonal and office skills.
  • Computer literate with the capacity to use databases on different programs.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish.
  • Organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and to manage several activities effectively under deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, a problem solver, and able to organize job assignments. 
  • Cultural competency, including the ability to create and sustain inclusive and engaging spaces for people of all races/ethnicities, immigration status, genders, ages, life experiences and geographies.
  • Able to provide their own transportation, with adequate insurance and a CA Driver’s license.
