The Director of Middle School and Teen Programs at the Lucile Palmaro Clubhouse will support the implementation of all middle school and teen related athletic, educational and performing arts related programs. S/he is responsible for supporting the delivery of high quality curriculum-based activities that are aligned with: (1) the current New York State Learning Standards; (2) Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club’s program model; and (3) best practices in the fields of out of school time and youth development. This individual should be a motivational leader, with some knowledge of DYCD and its program requirements. The Director of Middle School and Teen Programs will report directly to the Program Director at the Lucile Palmaro Clubhouse.


Program Planning and Delivery

  • Oversee the coordination of all DYCD SONYC enrichment activities and curricula, including workscope and program schedule development
  • Oversee the chartering and implementation of Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s teen initiatives including, the Keystone Program, Lyricism 101, UPS Road Code and the Youth of the Year Suite
  • Oversee the implementation of the Brent’s Club program
  • Serve as the planning and implementation liaison for the annual Youth of the Year competition
  • Create a model for the implementation of post-secondary readiness proramming at the Clubhouse
  • Facilitate regular curriculum meetings with DYCD funded specialists/group leaders (one per month) in which they model best practices and allow group members to reflect on their experience and problem solve
  • Conduct regular observations of specialists and group leaders at work in their classrooms and provide feedback to improve and strengthen instruction
  • Review members’ work on an ongoing basis to assess level of engagement and to determine learning needs
  • Act as a liaison between regular school day, out of school time programs and teachers to ensure program quality
  • Communicate regularly with the Program Director, Education Director and Education Coordinator regarding curricula implementation issues, particularly concerning content specialists’ and group leaders’ materials/supplies needs

Delivery and Support of Professional Development

  • Plan and conduct trainings to support the skills and program implementation strategies of staff
  • Advance the integration of differentiated instruction into programming through strategies like: project-based learning and the use of technology
  • Seek out opportunities to remain current in knowledge of relevant educational research, trends in the fields of education and youth and curricula development

Curriculum and Program Assessment and Outcomes Tracking

  • Facilitate the dissemination of tools to monitor the effectiveness of programs, as well as member and parent satisfaction
  • Ensure that enrollment, attendance and work scope information are entered into DYCD databases in a timely fashion

Other Administrative Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning and implementation of a recruitment plan that assures that we maximize the involvement of teens across the Bronx community
  • Assist in the development of annual budgets, as well as oversee and manage program expenses
  • Assist with the recruitment, training and management of program staff and volunteers
  • Assist in completing mid and end of year grant reports
  • Assist in securing financial resources to ensure budget needs are met
