PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Provide leadership in the realm of revenue & grants accounting and have direct responsibility over the determination, recording, and tracking of revenues and overall grant management. 

Responsibilities

Primary:

Exercise independent judgment and discretion in planning and carrying out details of work procedures and methods using generally accepted accounting principles, specifically as they apply to not-for-profit entities, and in accordance with ADL policies and best practices. Their work efforts will span the ADL League and the ADL Foundation. Work will be done in collaboration with various interface organizations include the ADL internal F&A team as well as Development Operations, grant seekers, and grant users. Interfaces with external groups will include the RSM FAO organization, grantors, auditors, and other organizations, as deemed appropriate.

Secondary:

Skills and expertise in successful revenue accounting and grants management will aid the organization in serving its mission by securing ongoing and expanding funding, improving business opportunities through effective funding programs, and executing meaningful initiatives.

Qualifications

Skills: 

  • Experienced in not-for-profit accounting with a strong knowledge of revenue recognition.
  • Experienced in grant accounting types (e.g., conditional vs. unconditional, restricted vs. unrestricted) and treatment.
  • Capable of working closely with Development Operations and other internal organizations/teams in the obtainment, structuring (e.g., eliminates ambiguity at outset), tracking, enhancing procedures, and reporting of grants.
  • Manage reconciliation process between Salesforce and Intacct.
  • Able to provide a thorough review grant agreements (as well as assistance in structuring grant agreements.
  • Managing overall grant efforts once awarded (e.g., mitigates forfeitures).
  • Providing guidance on grant crafting and evaluating proposals with Program staff and others.
  • Documenting payments and expenditure.
  • Optimizing the grant administration process.
  • Collaborating with fundraisers where appropriate.
  • Preparing progress reports.
  • Ensuring compliance with all revenue reporting and grant compliance stipulations.
  • Collaborating with Payroll and T&K to ensure that grant allocation tables are correct and updated timely.
  • Reviewing and classifying donations in concert with Development Operations.
  • Managing and further enhancing grant databases.
  • Being recognized as a SME, educating staff on policies surrounding revenue recognition,
  • Preparing financial reports.
  • Ensure that grant programs operate efficiently by providing critical insights on observations and actions.
  • Streamline grant administration wherever possible and provide fiscal discipline.
  • Provide input on funding needs including assist on research funding opportunities.
  • Manage timelines of deliverables.
  • And other activities that may evolve over time.
  • Familiarity with the Salesforce CRM product set.
  • Strong oral, written and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to understand, interpret, and apply business and accounting principles as well as rules and regulations in revenue and grant proposals that apply to financial data.
  • Ability to work with all levels within and without the organization including re-enforcing relationships with donors.
  • Superior organizational, budgeting, and project management skills.

Work Experience:

  • Expertise in not-for-profit accounting and grant management.
  • Advance skills in the Microsoft suite of products.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Use of software products including Sage Intacct, among others.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent.
  • Advanced degrees and certifications and plus.
