Senior Accountant Job Description

Our growing team is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to handle all accounting functions for MassBioEd. Duties include preparing monthly financial statements, maintaining all subsidiary ledgers and account reconciliations, preparing financial audit work papers and schedules, processing AP and AR transactions, and preparing and maintaining grant reimbursement schedules.  This position will work closely with the VP Finance & Administration at MassBio on reporting, budgeting and planning. MassBioEd and MassBio have shared fiscal teams.  This is a full-time position.


Job Responsibilities

  • Direct all aspects of general accounting policies and procedures to ensure the integrity of financial information and compliance with GAAP
  • Prepare monthly financial statements per US GAAP
  • Prepare supporting General Ledger schedules and account reconciliations
  • Prepare department financials, variance reporting and analysis and annual audit support schedules, prepare bank deposits and enter deposit data, reconcile bank statements monthly
  • Prepare MassBioEd grant reimbursement schedules in support of staff
  • Provide support for annual budgeting and long term planning process
  • Prepare miscellaneous compliance/tax filings
  • Work with VP Finance & Administration at MassBio and the External Auditors to file Form 990 by preparing supporting schedules and documentation
  • Participate in the development and documentation of accounting policies and procedures and related internal controls
  • Appraise the organization’s financial position from periodic financial and operating reports, and make appropriate recommendations to the Executive Director
  • Prepare financials for the Executive Director and Finance Committee as needed in conjunction with VP of Finance at MassBio and the Treasurer of MassBioEd
  • Ensure organizational compliance with all federal, state and local tax and reporting regulations, including the processing of applicable tax payments and returns
  • Provide support for the annual budget, providing tools and guidance to senior staff in the collaborative planning and preparation of the annual budget
  • Assist with the annual external audit process, working with audit firm to ensure all audit and tax return requirements are met on a timely basis.  Ensure preparation of audit schedules and reports as needed in advance
  • Assist with development of fiscal policies and procedures for the organization in conjunction with the VP of Finance at MassBio and the Executive Director of MassBioEd, and maintain appropriate documentation for the organization


Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business, accounting, or related field is required; MBA preferred.
  • Five years proven accounting experience including minimum of three years as a senior-level accountant 
  • Accounting experience in a non-profit and Grant Accounting is required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and Quickbooks or other leading accounting software required
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills with a high attention to detail and organization
  • Proven ability to produce timely and accurate results within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects
  • Demonstrated financial and business acumen
  • Commitment to MassBioEd’s mission of building a sustainable MA life sciences workforce through education and workforce development programs
