This position will maintain the day-to-day administration of the Society's benefit plans and programs (medical, dental, vision, short-term and long-term disability, life and ad&d, flexible spending, health savings, voluntary insurance). The Benefit Administration Specialist will ensure consistent administration and interpretation of plans throughout the Society in accordance with federal and state policies.

 

Essential Function/Responsibility


1. Benefit Administration 

  • Respond to employees' inquiries regarding benefits, includes monitoring employee benefits mailbox
  • Monthly reconciliation and payment of all benefit related invoices
  • Resolve administrative issue with carriers
  • Assist in managing enrollments and terminations of benefits (i.e., transit eligibility, life conversion notices)
  • Responsible for managing the leave process
  • Create, update and maintain benefit processes as required, including communications that may be distributed internally through news sheets.

2. HRIS System 

  • Process qualifying life event changes in benefits portal
  • Review, update, and upload benefit deduction reports on bi-weekly basis
  • Update and maintain documents in benefits portal
  • Participate in benefits testing during open enrollment
  • Support system implementations
  • Modify and run reports as needed
  • Troubleshoot system error reports

3. Other 

  • Participate in annual Open Enrollment Process
  • Support and participate in Wellness initiatives
  • Any other task or function necessary to support the Payroll & Benefits Team

Minimum Education:

  •  Bachelor of Arts or Science

Minimum Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience in benefit administration
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and maintain flexibility in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Strong analytical and problem skills
  • Familiarity with the changing landscape of benefits. Healthcare Reform a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

Professional License/Certification Required:

  • PHR or CEBS a plus

Technical/Other:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, advanced Excel skills required
  • HRIS experience required, ADP HWSE a plus. Knowledge of data feeds a plus.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new software technologies.
  • Payroll processing knowledge a plus.
  • Commitment to the mission, vision, cultural values, and expectations of the National MS Society
  • (IF APPLICABLE) This position will be required to drive/travel on Society business. Candidate must possess a valid driver's license, proof of insurance and reliable transportation. The Society does run motor vehicle checks for all positions which require driving and the applicant must meet the Society guidelines.
  • (IF APPLICABLE) Availability to work occasional nights and weekends to support events, committee meetings, etc
  • This position will be required to drive/travel on Society business. Candidate must possess a valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and reliable transportation.
