 Location: Tapachula, Mexico.  Live-out position

Placement: Immediate start; Monday – Friday 09:00 - 17:00

Living stipend, accommodation and one meal per day provided.

Role Context

Our Education Program is expanding in order to cater for children and youth in our care, with a more individualised approach to their education. There is a need to promote and teach (1) health and wellbeing, both physically and mentally and (2) functional living skills. In addition, we aim to expand our community reach this academic year and deliver more classes and workshops within our local community.

 The Support Worker will play a crucial role in developing and delivering curriculum for individual children and youth who have specific learning needs, as well as a group curriculum for community programs.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

●    Develop and implement a sports and wellbeing program within an educational context

●    Assist in developing and delivering an English as a second language program

●    Work one on one with specific children and youth to promote and teach social and functional skills

●    Work alongside the education team to coordinator specific tasks for small groups or individual children and youth

●    Assist in maintaining the education and wellbeing records of each Misión México child and youth

●    Help to identify strategies within the Misión México Foundation environment that could enhance academic, wellbeing and health development

●    Work closely with the Misión Mexico Foundation Directors to organise additional education workshops, classes, and projects 

 

Qualifications, Experience, and other requirements

●    Experience in teaching children and/or young adults (evidence to be cited)

●    Experience working with children or young people from backgrounds of trauma and/or disadvantaged backgrounds

●    Understanding of developmental delays and how to support optimal learning outcomes in these contexts

●    Minimum of a 6-month commitment

●    Valid ‘working with children check’ and undergo a Criminal Records Check prior to engagement. Subsequently must report any criminal charges or court appearances

●    Two references from previous employers

Additional

Time off will be negotiated with the Education Coordinator. No weekend hours would be required unless field trips or educational events are scheduled.

Annual leave and working hours will be negotiated with the Education Program Coordinator. This job description is not exhaustive and is provided to assist the post holder to know what her/his duties are.  It may be amended from time to time, without change to the levels of responsibility and in discussion with the post holder.

Level of Language Proficiency

We expect candidates to speak English fluently; while we do not require that they are native speakers, their level in speaking, listening comprehension, reading and writing must be high enough to teach to our children and youth.

A minimum of conversational Spanish would be very helpful to the candidate in their professional and personal life here in Tapachula, Chiapas, Mexico.
