The Director of Major Gifts (DMG) is charged with overseeing the U.S. Soccer’s major giving program and generating significant philanthropic support for the organization. The individual will be fully responsible for the operating activities – including identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major gift prospects, and donor stewardship activities – for a growing team of front-line fundraisers. In addition, the DMG will personally manage a portfolio of approximately 50 donors and prospects capable of making a gift of $100,000+.


Primary Responsibilities

·     In consultation with the CSO, establish an annual budget and strategic operating plan, with measurable performance objectives aligned with U.S. Soccer’s organizational goals

·     Oversee the organization’s portfolio of major gift donors and prospects – set benchmarks, establish goals, and track results on a monthly basis to ensure all front-line fundraisers are meeting goals and expectations 

·     Build and mentor a successful team of front-line fundraisers, closely monitor individual performance, provide ongoing feedback, and motivate and support team members to achieve targeted results 

·     Collaborate with the CSO, the Director of Development and others, as needed, to ensure major giving strategies align with departmental objectives

·     Create individualized donor action plans and oversee portfolio reviews on a regular basis

·     Engage in activities that focus on maximizing potential gifts over the long-term

·     Oversee all front-line fundraisers’ interaction and engagement with donor CRM (currently Salesforce) to maximize and track movements of donors along the giving spectrum

·     Identify prospects and cultivate donors via in-person visits, telephone and email communication, and engagement opportunities

·     Steward donors through communications, events, and experiences 

·     Additional duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications 

·     Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s Degree or CFRE Certification preferred

·     Minimum of six (6) years of front-line experience cultivating major gifts from individual donors

·     Minimum (2) years of leadership of major giving team

·     Superior interpersonal communication and relationship building skills 

·     Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, including presentation development

·     Demonstrated experience in talent identification, mentorship and guidance of major gift fundraisers
