What we do

Since 1973, the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center (BARCC) has been a leader in the movement to end sexual violence. BARCC empowers survivors of sexual violence to heal and provides education and advocacy for the social change needed to create cultures that prevent sexual violence. The role

BARCC is looking for an experienced administrative professional to support the Executive Director (ED) and other senior leaders to further BARCC’s growth and mission of ending sexual violence through healing and social change. This position facilitates efficient execution of the ED’s activities by vetting internal and external requests, directing assignments to appropriate staff, working closely with BARCC’s leadership team and Board of Directors members, managing internal and external correspondence, taking the lead in briefing preparation, and managing special events. This position functions as an extension of the ED by anticipating needs and proactively addressing issues with an emphasis on sound judgment, initiative, and confidentiality, with appropriate but minimal direction.


The ideal candidate will enthusiastically embrace the role of Executive Assistant to the Executive Director, taking pride in outstanding execution of all tasks and projects, regardless of size and scope. Where and when you’ll work

BARCC's staff, operations, hours, and location vary by function, type of work, and work style. You’ll primarily work from our Cambridge office, located at 99 Bishop Allen Drive in Central Square with occasional travel to our offices in Boston and Waltham.


This is a 40-hour, full time position, typically Monday through Friday. BARCC is open to discussing options such as flexibility in scheduling and occasional remote work.


What you’ll do

  • Provide high-level administrative support, anticipating and executing on the complex and varied needs of the ED role.
  • Complete a broad variety of administrative tasks including: managing extremely active calendars of meetings; reading, researching, and routing correspondence and other materials appropriately; drafting letters and documents; collecting and analyzing information; filing documents; and compiling documents for meetings.
  • Serve as liaison to external constituents, such as the Board of Directors, by managing communication, scheduling, and logistics for meetings, researching and preparing meeting materials, organizing schedules of multiple participants, taking minutes, maintaining records, and ensuring follow-up on action items.
  • Work closely and effectively with ED and senior staff, keeping them well informed of upcoming commitments and responsibilities, following up appropriately, and moving items along until completion.
  • Manage the ED’s calendar, scheduling meetings and conference calls, coordinating with all stakeholders and arranging travel as needed.
  • Serve as a first point-of-contact for the ED’s time, prioritizing communication/items for follow up, responding to requests for meeting time, protecting the ED’s calendar, and ensuring follow up on action items.
  • Assume a proactive role in increasing the productivity, efficiency and organization of the ED role, ensuring that the ED’s time is focused on accomplishing the organization's highest priorities.
  • Act as ambassador to the ED role and to BARCC in interactions with internal and external stakeholders every day, operating with efficiency, enthusiasm, and professionalism.
  • Draft, edit and/or manage the ED’s internal and external communications and documents.
  • Provide ongoing support to BARCC’s core leadership team, driving planning, preparation and agenda creation for meetings, keeping minutes, information gathering, participating as needed, and assisting the ED in following up on action items.
  • Design, plan and execute special projects and initiatives under the direction of the ED that support the effectiveness and growth of BARCC: these projects will evolve over time depending on strategic need and will be adjusted to the skill and growth of the individual.
  • Assist in the day-to-day running of the organization.
  • Attend and participate in departmental, organization-wide and other meetings.
  • Act in the best interest of the organization, reflecting the values of teamwork, collaboration, and mutual respect.
  • Perform other duties as needed or directed.


You’ll bring

  • Demonstrated skill in administrative or executive support roles with a minimum of 3 years experience total, executive assistant to an ED or senior leader.
  • Ability to independently identify necessary steps and tasks to meet goals and deadlines, proactively prioritizing and communicating progress with minimal guidance.
  • A drive to use your organizational skills to help others with an ability to assess priorities on the go, “manage up,” communicate directly, respond to time sensitive needs with poise, and work efficiently and effectively in a team atmosphere.
  • Superb interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Outstanding time management skills, with proven ability to multi-task and manage changing priorities effectively with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute on both short-term, deadline-driven tasks as well as long-term, complex projects.
  • A strong work ethic and positive attitude, with a willingness to be flexible and persistent to drive work to completion.
  • A professional and resourceful style with good instincts about when to work independently and when to leverage support from others.
  • Sound judgment, maturity, and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • High level of proficiency in Google Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook required; experience with PowerPoint and Salesforce preferred.
  • A passion for BARCC’s mission of ending sexual violence through healing and social change.

Starting salary range and benefits

$50,000- $56,000 depending on experience and skills. The total compensation package includes a generous benefits package, including health, dental, vacation, sick time, and other coverage options.
