At City Year, our mission is to ensure every child succeeds through closing gaps in high-need schools. We are looking for the leaders to further our mission by being builders of strong coalitions and communities of trust and empowerment. We are seeking a passionate executive recruiter to lead this effort and identify innovative leaders who embody the qualities needed to further our mission and reflect the communities we serve.
What you'll do:
As a recruiter, you’re going to own and project manage all of our executive role searches, which include our local site Executive Directors and executive roles at our national headquarters. You are the primary thought partner to our senior executive hiring managers and will work with them to develop a strategy to identify and engage talent, and manage a comprehensive and inclusive interview process. You’ll creatively source and build partnerships with strategic organizations and proactively cultivate leads with a focus on identifying underrepresented talent. Coordinating and conducting in-depth interviews (virtually and in-person) and being able to effectively assess candidates is of course a large component, and you will coach hiring teams through a fair selections process that mitigates implicit bias and draws from a diverse candidate pool. Driving decisions and action through managing internal stakeholder relationships at all levels is a key part of the role.
You may also be called upon to support and coach local sites on their hiring processes, and you’ll help provide input into improving our ATS (Workday) and business processes. The majority of this role is independently driving searches and working with your hiring partners, but you’ll also collaborate weekly with your talent acquisition teammates, who make up a small but mighty team. You will be a member of the national People (HR) Team and report to the Vice President, Staff Talent Acquisition.
Who you are:
We’re looking for a mission-driven individual who loves all things recruiting and is relentless in finding talent of all backgrounds. Having 4+ years of full-cycle recruiting experience and a track record of filling senior-level roles is important, but more important is that you’re a strong relationship builder and influencer with stakeholders at all levels – from assistants to C-suite members (working with boards is a huge plus). When working with prospects and candidates, you can articulate City Year’s mission, vision, and challenges, and you care for their experience with the human side of recruiting at the forefront.
When it comes to building an inclusive and diverse workforce, you are well versed in implicit bias and are not afraid to challenge and coach your hiring teams - and yourself - in this area. You also have a solid understanding of how to craft inclusive job descriptions and stay on top of the latest talent recruiting practices. You love to be innovative and collaborate with teammates on how we can build an inclusive talent acquisition strategy at City Year.
You’ve also got all the necessary skills to make up a solid tool belt – you’re a deft communicator who can quickly adapt and tailor messages appropriately, and you demonstrate exceptional judgment and discretion with urgency in high-pressure situations. You work hard independently but love to collaborate, and you are incredibly detailed and organized in a complex environment with a lot of moving parts. Ideally, you have non-profit or education experience, but if you’re mission-driven we’re looking for you too.
Lastly, you’ll be based at our Boston headquarters and need to be able to travel nationally for in-person site interviews, conferences, and team retreats, anywhere from 0-25% per month depending on current open requisitions.
Sound like you? Understanding your motivation and passion is important to us. In your cover letter, please share your love for recruiting and bringing talent into mission-driven organizations and how you operate with a lens of diversity, inclusion, equity, and belonging.
