Development Associate

Position Overview: 

Root is growing and is in search of a new member of our Development and Communications Team! The Development Associate role (20-30 hours/week) reports to the Development and Communications Director and Executive Director.  Occasional early mornings/evenings for select events may be required.  Root is an entrepreneurial organization which at-times requires “all hands on deck” to fulfill our mission on behalf of youth and community. Team-members may occasionally be asked to step in to help with other program or enterprise projects throughout the year.

Role & Responsibilities may include: 

Donor administration and data management -

• Donor management system data entry and data upkeep
• Printing and mailing donor acknowledgement and thank you letters
• Photocopying and filing gift documentation, as necessary

Volunteer coordination - 

• Assist Development and Communications Director with coordinating volunteer projects on an ongoing basis
• Track volunteer hours and collect feedback to improve Root’s volunteer experience
• Coordinate volunteer appreciation and gratitude throughout the year

Event support - 

• Help support Root’s event series, including  a marquee annual event for 400+ community supporters, donors, sponsors, and friends.  Support can include, but is not limited to print mailings, night-of assistance, event follow-up, and more
• Assist supporting Root events throughout the year including, but not limited to Youth Led Dinners, cooking classes, and other gatherings in support of Root’s mission

Communications -

• Assist with generating content (photos, stories) for Root’s social media and e-newsletters
• Manage label development and production for Root products
• Maintain Root Cafe’s public bulletin board to ensure current information and messaging
• Assist with marketing and other communications projects to raise awareness, thank customers, etc.

General -

• Support Root’s bi-annual appeal distribution, including assembly, mailing, and tracking
• Manage and inventory Root’s supply of printed materials for donors and general audience of community supporters
• Assist with other development-related tasks as-needed

Qualifications: 

• Strong organizational, writing, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, sensitive to timeliness and responsiveness necessary to meet the information needs of a fast-moving, dynamic organization.
• Proficient in Google Suite and Microsoft Office
• Ability to provide strong customer service to internal stakeholders and external constituents.
• Commitment to foster and support Root’s mission.
• Ability to handle confidential matters with discretion.
• One year of experience in non-profit fundraising or event planning preferred.
• Database experience preferred.

• Ability to lift 20 pounds
• Visual and hearing acuity to perform job-related functions
• Local travel sometimes required

The Development Associate opportunity at Root is a non-exempt, administrative support staff role. Though the Development Associate role is a part-time position, it may be eligible for health and dental benefits.  The position is eligible for sick time and other employee benefits as mandated by law.
