The Denver Foundation’s Impact Group is responsible for delivering exceptional outcomes to drive the Foundation’s community leadership. The Impact Group is responsible for managing all aspects of the Foundation’s revenue development, donor stewardship, grantmaking, and leadership activities around public policy, evaluation and learning, and philanthropic leadership and engagement. The Impact Group is dedicated to leveraging philanthropy and generosity to help create a more racially equitable community, in which all residents have the opportunity for a high quality of life and a voice in their futures.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is a frontline fundraising position, responsible for managing a portfolio of current and prospective donors, as well as estate and complex gift management and coordination. The Planned Giving Officer will work with other impact group colleagues to steward and recognize current Community Legacy Society members, to work with prospects to build the pipeline for planned gifts, and work with staff and legal counsel to help the Foundation accept complex assets and bequests.

 RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 Departmental Collaboration and Engagement:

·        Contribute to building and sustaining positive departmental culture that supports commitment to team goals and core values, and that fosters development of individual leadership, accountability, and continuous improvement

·        Work in collaboration with other Impact Group colleagues and Communications staff to tell stories of impact for the community, and for donor-specific reporting

·        Work with Impact Group colleagues and Communication staff to incorporate planned giving goals into events, convenings, and other opportunities for donor engagement and donor/grantee connection

·        Serve as the department’s in-house expert on planned giving, and provide strategic counsel on trends, gifting techniques, and complex gift situations.

·        In collaboration with the Impact Project Manager ensure that technology and data are appropriately leveraged to track planned gifts, bequests, and pipeline

Fundraising and Donor Services:

·        In partnership with the Vice President of Engaged Philanthropy and the Director of Philanthropic Advisor Programs develop a comprehensive plan for increasing planned giving services and opportunities at the Foundation to help realize the goals for increased endowment fundraising

·        Steward a portfolio of the Foundation's Community Legacy Society members to ensure they feel appreciated and recognized, as well as connected to the Foundation’s work in the community

·        Identify and cultivate new planned gifts to the Foundation, elevating the Foundation’s value proposition for personalized and impact charitable legacies

·        Work with Impact staff to develop planned giving as a critical component of a strategic fundraising plan and serve as a partner to other staff in planned giving conversations

·        Promote giving to and through The Denver Foundation via personal consulting with donors about the importance of permanent and flexible funds with a racial equity focus, that are collaborative and provide community-based solutions

·        Serve as the primary point person for gift acceptance, including working with donors and banks for securities transfer, coordinating with legal counsel for complex assets, and in the management and liquidation of estate gifts

·        Using appropriate tools, develop gift and financial models for donors and prospects

Marketing and Promotion

·        Participate in speaking engagements and planned giving seminars, and work with Communications to develop marketing materials

·        In partnership with Impact colleagues and Communications staff, identify opportunities to expand the Foundation’s audience and legacy prospects, including work to position the Foundation to take on a 100th Anniversary endowment campaign in 2025

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·        At least five years of experience in fundraising and/or donor service

·        At least two years of experience in planned giving and/or trust/estate administration

·        Experience with complex asset donations, including real estate

·        Knowledge and understanding of charitable sector tax incentives and gift vehicles

·        Knowledge and understanding of the local nonprofit sector

·        A learning orientation that’s focused on building a continuous improvement and learning culture through assessment of outcomes and promoting organizational change

·        Experience building relationships with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures

·        Strong customer service orientation and excellent interpersonal and relational skills

·        Excellent verbal and written communication skills

·        Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills

·        High level of confidentiality and professionalism

·        Strong attention to detail and customer service orientation

·        An unwavering commitment to racial equity

·        Belief in the model of community foundations

·        Commitment to the philosophy of the Impact Group, bringing together all philanthropy at the Foundation

·        Ability to build relationships with people of diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and cultures

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

·        Experience in major gifts, donor-advised funds, planned gifts and/or complex assets

·        Knowledge of estate administration, wills, trusts, etc.

·        Experience with grantmaking and grant administration

·        Knowledge of Crescendo, Blackbaud and or other CRM software for moves management purposes

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The position is based in an office environment with a mix of private offices and cubicles.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

·        Daily communication via phone.

·        Frequent extended hours in front of a computer screen with or without accommodations.

·        Regular group and public speaking.

·        Occasional activities occurring outdoors

·        Must be authorized to work in the United States
