About Rebuilding Together Acadiana

Declared “The Happiest City in the U.S.” by the Wall Street Journal in 2014, Lafayette and the Rebuilding Together Acadiana affiliate provide a unique experience for those serving as CapacityCorps members. Acadiana is the heart of Cajun country and home to hundreds of annual festivals and cook-offs celebrating the area's French heritage. The region is also known as a 'sportsman's paradise,' with many nearby parks, swamps, and recreational areas to explore. As a member of the Acadiana affiliate, you will be a part of a close-knit team that services low-income, elderly and disabled homeowners across four parishes. While the affiliate is small, the impact is huge and the programs diverse. As a CapacityCorps member this translates into a well-rounded service term, in which members are given the opportunity to discover their own strengths and weakness and focus on the areas of service that interest them most. RTA’s leadership provides encouragement and resources to motivate members in improving the health and safety of houses in our community.

Rebuilding Together works to strengthen the lives of our most vulnerable communities by providing low-income homeowners with critical home repairs, accessibility modifications and energy-efficient upgrades. Rebuilding Together's local affiliates and nearly 100,000 volunteers complete about 10,000 rebuild projects each year. We believe that everyone deserves to live in a safe and healthy home. As we help to stabilize and revitalize neighborhoods across the country, our lasting impact extends beyond each home.

On average, our homeowners live at or below the poverty level and are forced to choose between food, medicine and shelter needs. We provide these critical home repairs at no cost to qualified homeowners. Rebuilding Together is often the last resort to preserving their homeownership – their only personal asset.
