Job Summary

We are seeking a full-time Project Manager, to work with the Principal Investigators and research teams to fully implement and manage current and future research projects focused on the role of neighborhoods and health in the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) and led by investigators at the Urban Health Collaborative at the Dornsife School of Public Health, Drexel University. The Project Manager functions as a critical member of the research team, with a primary duty and responsibility as the coordination and management of one NIH-funded study focused on neighborhood characteristics and aging, but also will be responsible for collaborating in other related studies carried out by the Investigators at the Urban Health Collaborative at the Dornsife School of Public Health.

The Project Manager will be responsible for coordinating all administrative, scientific, and knowledge translation aspects of the projects. Specifically, they will oversee logistical aspects of data collection, coordinate and manage the research team, track the scientific productivity of the research group, and assist with dissemination.

MESA Neighborhoods and Aging Project: This project aims to examine how neighborhoods and its changes are related to cognitive decline and dementia and risk factors, within the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA). While data collection occurs across the MESA six field centers, the Urban Health Collaborative at the Dornsife School of Public Health is responsible for overseeing and managing the implementation of the Neighborhoods and Aging project, including coordination between the research members at Drexel and, the MESA sites. Data collection will include both survey-based (at the six MESA field centers) and GIS-derived measures (to be created at Drexel).

MESA Neighborhoods and Liver disease project: This project aims to examine how neighborhoods and its changes are related to liver related disease and its risk factors, within the MESA study. The Urban Health Collaborative at the Dornsife School of Public Health is responsible for overseeing and managing the analyses of samples and liver related images for this project, the coordination between the research members at Drexel, the MESA laboratory and MESA imaging reading center, and the coordinating center.

Essential Functions

Personnel Management:

• Oversee hiring of study personnel and students supported by the project in collaboration with the Urban Health Collaborative Senior Business Manager

• Help supervise student research assistants and manage the activities of other study personnel

• Develop and implement internal communications and knowledge sharing/knowledge management activities and platforms (meeting schedule/workflow communication)

Project Management:

• Assist with the development and management of IRB applications, as needed

• Coordinate and manage annual work planning activities. Track core progress in meeting project aims/deliverables and engage in frequent communication with the research team (at Drexel, and outside Drexel e.g. MESA sites, MESA laboratory, MESA coordinating center)

• Track and manage ongoing research activities and will oversee data sharing and communication with university offices, vendors, research collaborators

• Work with the Urban Health Collaborative Senior Business Manager to oversee multiple grant subcontracts and track spending

• Collect and organize materials for future funding applications, progress reports, and other grant related activities and communications

Data Collection Coordination and Management:

• Coordinate with the MESA coordinating center (and the six MESA field centers) to track progress on survey data collection

• Organize GIS data collection and processing within the Drexel team

• Monitor of progress of analyses of samples (stored blood samples and liver images) with the MESA laboratory and reading center), quality control activities and data distribution to Drexel

• Establish and update documentation of procedures for internal server storage, cloud-based storage of study documentation, and transfer of data between collaborating institutions with attention to license terms and protections of data confidentiality appropriate to studies using geographically referenced data on health and the urban environment

• Handle logistics for linking and returning data created by Drexel back to MESA coordinating center

Dissemination of Research Findings:

• Assist the Principal Investigators in drafting and submitting regular project reports to the funder

• Assist with the development and submission of manuscripts for peer review publication

• Collaborate with communications team within Urban Health Collaborative to produce content for research participants and lay audiences

Other Duties as Assigned:

• Represent the Principal Investigators as needed to university and external audiences including meetings and conferences

• Additional assigned duties as needed. Balance of activities will be adjusted, as needed, to support the successful fulfillment of aims agreed upon with external funding agencies, growth of the team, and developing research priorities

Required Qualifications

  • A Masters Degree (or higher) in public health or another directly related field is required.
  • 2 years of experience managing complex and big data research projects or working in a field related to the project as described.
  • Experience tracking multiple components of complex projects, facilitating communication within interdisciplinary teams, and supervising research activities
  • Very detail oriented, extremely organized, and comfortable with multitasking
  • Possess excellent oral, written, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong leadership and project management skills
  • Team oriented and experienced working with diverse groups
  • Can work independently and has demonstrated complex problem-solving ability
  • Willingness to be flexible to the evolving needs of the grant funded research projects
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and EndNote
  • Experience with project management software

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience with multisite research

• Experience with ESRI ArcGIS or other GIS software

• Background or experience in urban or city planning (including transportation planning)
