Background/Position Summary:

The American Technion Society (ATS) supports visionary education and world-changing impact through the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. Based in New York City, we represent thousands of US donors, alumni and stakeholders who invest in the Technion’s growth and innovation to advance critical research and technologies that serve the State of Israel and the global good. Over more than 75 years, our nationwide supporter network has funded Technion faculty, students, research, labs and facilities that have helped deliver world-changing contributions and extend Technion education to campuses on three continents.

ATS employs a staff of 70+ that work from New York and in regional offices across the United States.

Reporting to the ATS Senior Director of Development, Southern Region, the Director of Development position will play a central role in helping to manage ATS philanthropic activities that are centered in the Miami-area. The successful candidate will manage a fundraising portfolio with the goal of cultivating and soliciting individuals with a capacity of gifts in the six and seven figure range. The primary focus area will be the Miami market (including Aventura, Sunny Isles Beach, North Miami, Downtown Miami, Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, and South Miami), yet engagement with other key communities in the Southern Region will be essential over time including areas on the West Coast of Florida such as Naples and Sarasota.

The Director of Development will be responsible for developing fundraising plans for his/her assigned areas and portfolio of management, in partnership with the Senior Director and other members of the Southern Region ATS office as well as the Southern Region lay leadership. The Director of Development will execute targeted fundraising to achieve defined regional goals. S/He will identify and cultivate donors and implement targeted solicitation strategies designed to increase the donor base and close gifts.

Responsibilities:

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

·      Partner with the Senior Director to manage the American Technion’s Society’s presence in the Miami market.

·      Develop and grow the American Technion Society’s donor base of individuals and foundations capable of giving $100,000 or more.

·      Involve and partner with lay leadership in activities and strategies to build and leverage their volunteer leadership throughout the territory/portfolio.

·      Develop and manage a portfolio of 150 prospects, of which 40-50 will be high priority potential donors.

·      Engage in direct and systematic prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of high net worth individuals.

·      Execute programmatic activities that develop the ATS pipeline and engage new donors including overseeing and further developing the “Miami Technion Innovators,” an initiative to engage individuals who have the potential to be the future leaders of the ATS in Miami.

·      Adhere to assigned budget to ensure effective stewardship of ATS resources.

·      Utilize the ATS database to maintain accurate records of all donor interactions, individuals’ programmatic interests, trends in giving and type of support to solicit.

·      Travel twice yearly to the NY/NJ Metro area for ATS professional staff institutes; some travel within the Southern Region will also be required including visits to the Naples and Sarasota areas as needed.

·      The location for the position is flexible and may incude the ability to work remotely, provided however the Director of Development should expect to work a minimum of one day each week in the Southern Region office in Boca.

Qualifications/Skills:

·      BA/BS required; Master’s degree preferred.

·      At least five (5) years of fundraising experience in a higher education, research or advocacy organization, or in a setting that advances science and technology, including a demonstrated track record in securing major gifts.

·      Knowledge of the Miami philanthropic market, and demonstrated success cultivating and personally soliciting charitable gifts for existing and new constituencies.

·      Team player spirit is a must.

·      Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required. Flexible schedule that will require working some nights and occasional weekends during season.

·      Commitment to the vision and mission of the ATS.

Desired Qualifications:

·      Excellent decision-making skills and demonstrated ability to independently implement fundraising strategies.

·      Demonstrable record of effective skills in working with lay leadership to advance the mission of a fundraising organization.

·      Entrepreneurial and self-motivated. Skilled at operating at a high level, creating solutions and making sound decisions in a complex, yet collaborative and supportive environment.

·      Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

·      Knowledge of and experience with Raiser's Edge.

·      Bilingual (Spanish) a plus.

Compensation:

The salary range is commensurate with experience. ATS offers a generous benefits package.
