Bridges Baltimore is committed to the long-term success of Baltimore City youth and to providing life-changing opportunities to independent school students. Our team of 13 serves approximately 500 people per year - 300 Baltimore City youth ages 9-23 and 200 independent school students. Our two sites, Bridges at St. Paul’s Schools (est. 1993) & Bridges at Gilman School (est. 2014), operate on a budget of $1.4mm. Watch a short Bridges video HERE.


The Opportunity

We are seeking one highly motivated soon-to-be college graduate or professional to join our small, hard-working, and innovative team. This person will spend 2 years leading programs and helping to change the lives of the motivated young people we serve. 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Summer Institute: Take on a key leadership role in the Bridges Summer Institute, including managing special events, head counselors, and our high school volunteer program (May-August).
  • School Year Programming: Direct our after-school program for fourth and fifth graders and our weekend enrichment programs for sixth through eighth graders (September-May).
  • Communications: Work with our Communications team to help market our work via social media and special events (Year-round). 


Ideal Candidates

  • Relationships: Forms strong relationships with people regardless of background and can be effective working and communicating with families, students, teachers, volunteers, partners, staff, and host schools.
  • Interests: Successful PSFs have come into the role with diverse interests. The Public Service Fellowship can help to jump-start a career in human services or clarify career aspirations in education, counseling, public policy, and non-profit management. It’s a great way to serve others and develop leadership skills that will help in any career path. 
  • Growth Mindset: Grows from failure, seeks feedback, and adapts to new situations. 
  • Technology: Comfortable using workplace technology including email, text, Microsoft suite, and adapting to other tools as needed.
  • Driving: The Elementary/Middle School Program Public Service Fellow will also need to drive a 14-passenger van (we will train you!)


Desired Background

  • ­Education: Undergraduate degree with a proven record of academic success.
  • Volunteer, Work, or Leadership Experience: Experience working with urban youth between the ages of 8 and 18 and success in at least one post-high school leadership role. We will look favorably upon prior volunteer experience at Bridges.


Role Details: Compensation, Supervision

  • Compensation: The salary for this full-time 12-month role is $28,000. Full-time employees are eligible to participate in our comprehensive benefits program which includes, but is not limited to, medical, dental, vision, disability and 403(b). Other supplemental benefits included a lunch benefit, fitness center and tuition remission. 
  • Start Date: The role is set to begin on or about June 14, 2021 , and the first-year commitment is June 2021-August 2022. Bridges will look favorably upon applicants with an interest in a 2-year commitment.
  • Supervision: This role reports to the Elementary/Middle School Program Director at Bridges at St. Paul’s.
  • Location: This role will be based at Bridges’ location at St. Paul’s Schools (Brooklandville, MD).
  • Hours: This role regularly requires work on evenings & weekends.
