Position Title: Development Director 

Department: Advancement

Reports To: Chief Advancement Officer

Position Summary:

The Development Director works to coordinate the implementation of the annual fundraising plan, including all events, mailings, sponsorships, and volunteers for sustainable resource development. The ideal candidate: 1) is passionate about our mission to eliminate racism and empower women, 2) is a leader and natural connector 3) enjoys working in a fast-paced, collaborative, and inclusive environment. The position supervises the part-time Data Specialist, is full-time, year-round, benefits-eligible, and exempt. The majority of the work is done in the YWCA offices with the flexibility to work some hours remotely.


Empower Hour Tours

  • Coordinates Empower Hour tours including reservations, post-tour data entry, leading engaging tours virtually or in-person, and making follow-up calls 
  • Works with the Marketing and Communications Director to craft compelling stories and other creative pieces for the Empower Hour tours
  • Supports volunteer Community Connectors resulting in 37 full Empower Hour Tours annually 


Events:

  • Leads the planning and implementation of the YWCA’s annual fundraising event including working with the Sustainability Committee on the menu, decorations, venue, parking, speakers, volunteer needs, day-of logistics 
  • Management of the Persimmon Host recruitment process and training of the Persimmon Hosts 


Donor Relations:

  • Provides staff support for monthly Sustainability Committee meetings and participates in coaching calls- prepares required reports in advance of calls
  • Assists in the identification of major gift prospects and maintains a small portfolio of sponsors and donors
  • Responsible for all aspects of the print appeals (four each year) including meeting budget parameters, crafting solicitation and acknowledgment letters, working with the Marketing and Communications Director on related materials, coordination with the board for signatures, printer and mail house for mailing.
  • Works with the Chief Advancement Officer to identify and engage sponsor prospects and create a sponsor benefit package




Volunteer Recruitment, Management, and Recognition:

  • Works with YWCA program staff to identify meaningful volunteer opportunities within the organization 
  • Creates and maintains accurate volunteer job descriptions; ensures YWCA website and partners have accurate and up-to-date descriptions and opportunities  
  • Works to promote volunteer opportunities in the community and recruit volunteers from a variety of sources, including Empower Hour follow up calls
  • Provides initial volunteer orientation and screening, and works closely with program staff to place volunteers in their new positions
  • Maintains a working relationship with volunteers in order to support, offer additional training, assure mission alignment, and have a deeper connection with the work of the organization.
  • Documents volunteer hours and manages volunteer paperwork 
  • Creates opportunities to recognize volunteers
  • Develops cultivation strategies and ensures volunteers attend Empower Hour tours and become community connectors 
  • Additional duties as assigned 


Experience and Qualifications: 

  • A deep understanding of racial and gender inequalities in WNC
  • Five years of nonprofit experience, three years of experience directly in nonprofit fundraising required 
  • Minimum of one year of experience supervising employees and volunteers 
  • Strong customer service and public speaking skills 
  • Exhibits strong interpersonal skills and is a team player
  • Event planning and management experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Relational database experience (Bloomerang, SalesForce, Raiser's Edge)
  • Experience in the Benevon model of fundraising preferred

 

FLSA STATUS: Exempt. Full time
