ABOUT FRESH YOUTH INITIATIVES (FYI): FYI is a dynamic community-based organization that offers immigrant and first-generation youth the tools, supports, and caring relationships that empower them to navigate transitions, connect to community, flourish in school, and prepare for college and career. Founded in 1993, FYI operates programs at five sites in Washington Heights/Inwood where 1,200 children participate in educational, youth development, mental health, and college access programs. In response to community needs amplified by the pandemic, FYI transformed itself from a single service youth organization to a multi-service organization that bolsters fragile families by providing social services, hunger relief, and mental health supports.


ABOUT THE POSITION

FYI seeks an experienced development professional who will be a thought partner in FYI’s organizational growth and evolving service areas. The full-time Senior Grant Writer will support the Development Director and Executive Director in achieving an annual revenue goal of $4M by articulating FYI’s mission, accomplishments, and aspirations to varied stakeholders. The ideal candidate is creative and flexible, able to produce diverse materials, specifically, grant proposals including government RFPs, and high-level communications such as annual reports and donor cultivation materials. This fast-paced, collaborative environment will afford you the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the agency’s growth and to improving life outcomes for children and their families.


Location: FYI’s headquarters in Washington Heights with occasional work from home available.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with the Development Director to identify and secure new foundation prospects 
  • Coordinate and write proposals to private and corporate foundations and RFPs to government agencies
  • Prepare grant reports to foundations, collaborating with program staff as needed 
  • Write newsletter, blog posts, and annual report
  • Participate in departmental and executive level strategic planning


QUALIFICATIONS

  • A proven track record of three or more years of direct experience soliciting funds at a nonprofit of similar size or larger
  • Demonstrated success in winning government grants and private grants
  • Experience cultivating and maintaining long-term relationships with foundation and corporation principals
  • Proven aptitude in various mediums including solicitations, proposals, reports, and marketing collateral
  • Proven track record of meeting multiple deadlines
  • Experience working with fundraising databases
  • Competency in Microsoft Office Suite 
  • Content knowledge in areas of youth development, mental health, or education is an asset
  • Knowledge of online systems for government grants (i.e., Grants.gov, NYC HHS Accelerator, SAM, NYC PASSPort, Grants Gateway) is an asset
  • Meticulous attention to detail 
  • Capacity to work independently as well as with a team; able to adapt when necessary
