Description

Brooklyn Youth Chorus seeks a part-time Program Assistant to serve as a rehearsal manager and front desk receptionist. The rehearsal manager is responsible for taking attendance, monitoring chorister behavior before, during, and after rehearsal, and helping distribute music as needed. As the front desk receptionist, the program assistant is responsible for greeting guests and parents, answering the phone, email, and other administrative work.


In additional to these tasks the program assistant would be asked to help with two Brooklyn Youth Chorus annual concerts: Holiday Harmonies (tentative dates: December 14 to 16, 2018) and Spring Sings (tentative dates: May 13 to May 18), and other special events such as the Fall Benefit and Spring Gala (Dates TBD).


TENTATIVE WEEKLY SCHEDULE - subject to change

Mondays, 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm (5 hours)

Location: Eagle Academy (1137 Herkimer Street)


Wednesday, 2:30 to 7:30 pm (5 hours)

Location: Brooklyn Youth Chorus HQ (179 Pacific Street)


Fridays, 4:30 to 7:30 pm (3 hours)

Location: Brooklyn Youth Chorus HQ (179 Pacific Street)


Saturdays, 9:30 am to 4:30 pm (7 hours)

Location: Brooklyn Youth Chorus HQ (179 Pacific Street)


Approximate Total Hours: 20 hours per week


SALARY/RATE OF PAY

$18 per hour


This position reports directly to the School Administrator and will run from September 2018 to June 2019 with the option to be renewed after June 2019.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in music, music education, and/or arts administration
  • Teaching experience (music education field is preferred)
  • Experience working with young people from diverse backgrounds
  • Must possess the ability to establish strong working relationships with Brooklyn Youth Chorus colleagues and families
  • This position may include apprenticeship opportunities in Brooklyn Youth Chorus’s trademarked Cross-Choral Training Method. Candidates with an interest in choral music education and conducting or strongly preferred.
