Job Title:                   Program Assistant

Reports to:                 Executive Director

Hours/week:              25 to 30 hours/week, additional hours as needed

Compensation:          $18-20/hour and paid time off; health insurance after probationary period

About us: Community Lunch on Capitol Hill, a 501(c)3 non-profit, provides hot meals and other essential services to homeless and low-income people in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood. The meal is open to all. No sign-in. No judgment. We serve the hot meals as take-out per COVID-19 protocols Monday through Friday 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM out of All Pilgrims Christian Church. We also provide basic medical assistance, survival gear, clothing, toiletries, and other services to help guests improve their lives. Position Summary:  This position involves a blend of operational activities that support our services that include, but are not limited to, meal preparation and service, and clothing bank and volunteer management. The activities for any given day can vary depending on staffing and volunteer availability. The hours are nominally 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM but may be longer on any given day due to different circumstances.

Job Focus Areas:

Meal, Clothing and Volunteer management:

o  Work with volunteers and staff in preparing and serving meals

o  Work with volunteers and staff in the management and distribution of clothing

o  Be present at the meal service to offer assistance to guests and de-escalate if conflicts arise

o  Assist in all areas as needed, including –but not limited to—dishwashing, garbage detail, meal service, cooking, meal cleanup, regular cleaning and occasional deep cleaning

o  Other duties and responsibilities as they arise

An essential part of this position is being able to work effectively with staff, volunteers, donors, sponsors, vendors and guests in an inclusive, collaborative and cooperative environment. A pleasant and professional attitude is essential. The successful candidate will work with the Executive Director to develop this position as the lists of tasks are subject to change over time as the requirements evolve.

Position requirements:

o  Must be comfortable working with the homeless and low-income population

o  Must agree to a comprehensive background check

o  Must be able to lift 40 lbs up and down stairs

o  Full COVID-19 vaccination
